From what I've heard, when you're 30, you're supposed to spend all your time thinking about the things you wish you had done when you were still in your 20s.

when I first joined, flame bait was looked upon as an opportunity to have fun destroying someone's crappy views. now, whenever someone posts something stupid, like that creationism is scientific or Saddam had WMDs, they're largely ignored.

F that. I'm spending all of my time doing all of the things I wish I'd done when I was in my 20's. First college, then travelling, then maybe settle down when I'm 35 or 40. Screw the rat race. Life's too short.

No I just think once you turn 30, hanging out with 15 to 20 year olds makes you a creepy loser. Most of the new people joining this forum are high school to early college. I don't think you should stop surfing the internet all together. I just think people should get some friends around their own age.

...why?

Isn't that a bit limiting? What if you relate best to people older or younger than you? What if what you enjoy most out of life happens to attract people of a different age range? Why should your age determine who you are, what you do, what you like, who you hang with? And where was the rulebook written, by whom? :eyebrow: :shifty:

I judge my friends based on the content of their character rather than the date on their birth certificate. Also, whether they laugh at my jokes.

That being said, when I'm 30 I expect to be doing things relatively similar to what I'm doing now hobby wise. I'll be on forums still, I imagine, and most certainly still reading comics. I'll probably have transitioned to TPBs, simply to save space. Hopefully I'll still have some of the more esoteric hobbies I'm a fan of, like miniature building/sculpting/painting or D&D. We never know what life brings us. Though, if my timeline is right, I should be going back for my Masters around then.

This. When I was in high school I hung out with 30+ people at the pub. I got flak from my classmates, but they were fun. Also my first DnD group. One of my best friends here in Canada just turned 30. There are enough people in the world I don't get along with that I don't need to turn people away based on age.

I dread our falling out in about three years.

But it's not like you were the only one that aged. Sure, there's some people here who are like 15-20, but there's a pretty significant crowd of spacers who are close to or over 25. Plus, one of the magical things about the internet is it can bring people of varying ages together as long as they can act in a reasonably civil manner.

To address the issue seriously for a second, I raised a similar point a few months back (about how the community seemed to be losing its "spark"), though I was labeled a "bitter olbie" at the time (I must not have Corgan's charisma). I'm not exactly sure why, but there just doesn't seem to be the level of energy here anymore.

Keenspace was always very tight-knit as a community, so it could even be something as simple as the loss of a few beloved forum members and a few others becoming less active. In the past two years, War, Kittykatblack, Mr Bob, Sortelli, RPin, and a number of others have all pretty well vanished, that's a huge chunk of post activity right there. Some of this is unavoidable, of course, people get older and their lives change and that's just how the internet works, but still, I wouldn't want anyone to get the idea that they have to leave just because they're a bit older than some of the new people or they don't have as much time to draw anymore.
