Winged Wolf Studio Webcomic Resource Blog

Post by Warofwinds »

I didn't think belonged in Pitching, TTT or OT, so I'm putting here (besides, this place needs more discussion). A while back, I started a webcomic resource blog named Winged Wolf Studio aimed at both people new to webcomics and old hats confused by new things that are popping up (like Project Wonderful).

I thought it could be of some assistance to people here as a pre-emptive post, rather than waiting for someone to start a topic with a problem or question and me having to find it and link an article. I'm lazy like that. Work smart, not hard!

Here are some direct links to more popular articles:

Webcomic Website Must-Have's

Making Good Banners

The Benefits of Being Part of a Webcomic Collective

Stumble Upon as a Webcomic Networking Tool

If this belongs in another place, sorry. I will definitely take suggestions for articles if anyone has any. Current articles on the backburner include "How to Take Comic Criticism," "What is a CMS and WHY do I need it? (part II)" and webcomic website reviews of five lucky volunteers from the TWCL forums.

Enjoy or ridicule, it's up to you!

I vote 'ridicule' for absolutely no reason whatsoever! :)

Thanks for the effort! I find your articles very useful and they give me some idea on how to get the "web" of webcomics going although I don't feel the need to go the full 'advertising whore' route.

Ridicule! YAY! <3

Yeah, offering advertising on your site is move that requires a lot of consideration. I'd rather have no ads on my site at all except for PW (I keep finding awesome new comics I'd never heard of before), but alas, I need the money. Ah, well, someday!

Someone already believes I should just get meiosisfilm.com!
I don't have a personal objection to advertising as a source of income and PW ads, in fact your articles get me thinking about any future ideas I may muck around with. To be honest, I'd rather have the skills to back up the blarb. There are far too many advertisers who maybe should concentrate on having great webcomics before they start flashing on the TWCL banner THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE!

Of course, having a readership is the result of showing off one's own work, but I do feel that it's not a be-all end all. Better 10 people who like your work than a thousand who are "meh" and start fan wars and what-have-you. I know for a fact that my readers are probably the most hard-core and patient mofos I've never met!

As an aside, I can't help thinking that I'm the one Kallisti refers to! ;)

*snorts* hahaha! I am SO curious who he's referring to. It keeps me up at night!

In other news, WWS was updated with a webcomic website review of Chirault. The stuff I talk about is definitely applicable to comic sites here on CG.
