Recommend Me A Serial Hosting Site

Post by Kasaii »

Because I don't want to be a serial killer.

Ouch, that was bad even for me.

Ok, brief background. My time as a comicker is coming to an end, and I'm transititioning my comic over to a text serial. Originally, I planned to just start doing text updates on CG, since it has a lovely auto-updater and everything, but I decided to check that, and it is apparantly not kosher (which is quite fair - this is, after all, ComicGenesis, not StoryGenesis).

This, however, leaves me at a bit of a loose end. My google-fu has failed me; I can find general hosting sites, but nothing serial-story related in any real sense, and nothing with any sort of time-based update system. At the moment I'm almost at the point of having to fall back on LiveJournal or DeviantArt, neither of which are really designed the way I was hoping for.

So, does anyone know of a site that's sort of like ComicGenesis, but for stories? I know that this isn't quite comic-related, but it's close, and since it's still a comic at the moment, I hope it's close enough. ;) Help would be very, very appreciated.

What about deviantArt? You can post short stories there, so chapters of a larger story would work just as well.

Anyways, it's probably for things like this that God made blogs for. You don't really need to have a dedicated hosting plan for short stories because the bandwidth needed is so low.

Wordpress is good. I'm using Wordpress right now, but with the Comicpress theme.

If you can find a random host with a decent whack of storage and php / mysql enabled, you could use almost any CMS which will give you the option to "publish" articles at a specific time / interval. I've used Joomla and Drupal, both are okay (but I was trying to do something different).

As Suburban said, any host that will let you put Wordpress (or other blog-type software) will work, you just might need to do the updates yourself rather than being able to have them auto-published (or it might be an available function either built-in or as an optional extra - best bet is to contact their community and see what they say).

Alternatively, you could try what I did, and make a Wikivella: a Novella built in a Wiki format. It's worked pretty good for me so far, I just need to get more free time to write with...

Interesting.

I'll take a look at Wordpress; my comic already has a wiki site, so it might also work as the main site. Could be an interesting way to go about things, and have comment pages and everything.

Wonder if I can Wordpress onto the wiki servers... something to look into.

Thanks for the help!
