Re: The Proposition.
Seeing as "Vanilla Death" already sounds like a description of my comic, I would go for the Million.

Re: The Proposition.
I'm a disgusting sell out, million all the way. I am/was the main character in my comic, so I'd sell my self REAL FAST to promote crap. Just think of the fame and fortune from exposure...
As for Ryan's little offer...I'd have to say sure. I'll take the deal because I'm under no obligation to produce NEW material for them, they merely can veto what I want to publish. Considering my comic wouldn't change too much in content I'd be cool with producing the same schlock I normally churn out. If I'm mandated to put out new comics, screw that.

Re: The Proposition.
Sell my artistic soul for thirty pieces of silver, metaphorically?
(Checking the price of silver...)
Sold.
Personally, I think Mindmistress would make a perfect action figure/doll. More accessaries than Batman...you could get her out of the armor and dress her in different clothes for the girly-inclined---a half-decent assortment of opponents...ka-ching!
However, no one's bidding, yet.---Al

Re: The Proposition.
I don't mind sellouts as long as they're not trying to justify themselves and pretend to keep a morally superior stance. If your attitude is "I'd take money, so what" from the beginning, I don't mind that. If you stick to being non-commercial at any cost, I respect that too. I only mind when people grip to their "integrity" until they're offered money, and then change the tune.
Also, I believe that everyone has their price, it's just that most of us never get offered ours.
And since those numbers Duff offered are huge for my standards, I'd prolly take any of them. Since I'm doing some work anyways, I'd prolly make the most out of it and take the largest number.

I'd be all to happy to be a corporate whore. In fact, I'd try to find a way to get all of the money.

Fiddle fiddle fah. You think I won't have racked up that much by the time I get a house and still haven't paid off my student loan? Who gives a crap how much *I* owe anyway, more money is more better!KWill wrote:Yeah, but Komi is roughly my age, and I didn't see her bring a toddler or two to the Webcomix Thing =Pxwhy wrote:I have a house and that's more than the mortgage ... and I have two kids that will be going to college. $100,000 isn't going to cut it unless they both go to CUNY schools (City University of New York). Granted, it would help a lot.

Re: The Proposition.
well for me, its a bit different. If the product was tested on animals or the company was funding it, or if the product wasn't cruelty free... there isn't any way me or my creations would support it... being in animal rights.. that wouldn't just make me a sell out that'd make me a hypocrite as well. Not something I could live with.
That being said in terms of selling out my comic to a major corp (if we pretend said corp isn't associated with the mistreatment of animals) then my current comic, I'd be okay with it. I could use one million for a job well done.

Re: The Proposition.
I actually didn't draw this one, if it isn't obvious.

Re: The Proposition.
I'll take the million - I'd like to see that commercial.yeahduff wrote:A big soda company happens upon your comic. They love it. You soon receive an email that turns out to be legit, and they give you the following offer.
$1,000,000 to have your characters in their commercials raving about their new Vanilla Death flavored soda.
$500,000 to have your characters appear in a commercial for the new pop.
$100,000 to have new characters in your style drawn specifically for the commercial.
Which do you choose? Why?
(Might even drink the soda...)

Re: The Proposition.
I'd definitely do the third option. Although one million dollars would be tempting, I don't think it would be worth selling out a comic I was working on. Plus, $100,000 isn't bad at all. Especially for a lousy commercial.
Re: The Proposition.
I'll take the million. Easily.

...especially if the comic is ten years old. By then I'll have finished the story I want to tell, the comic will be over, and I'll be ready to move on to something new. There comes a point when you need to let go- and the money and the recognition could be extremely useful for future projects. I'd like to think I'm not a sellout or a corporate whore, but if I see an opportunity to advance myself and move on to new possibilities, I'll take it in an instant.
Not sure what robots would do with soda, though. Unclog drains?

Re: The Proposition.
I don't know exactly what message you're sending there (something between "nice guys finish last" and "don't let this happen to you"?) but it really makes want not to buy your soda... or any other food or drink you've handled.Parables wrote:THE GOOD GUYS GET VD

*G* I was just wondering if anyone else noticed the poor choice of product name.TRI wrote:I don't know exactly what message you're sending there (something between "nice guys finish last" and "don't let this happen to you"?) but it really makes want not to buy your soda... or any other food or drink you've handled.

Yes, I just couldn't figure out a way to turn it into a joke that fit my characters' personality.Parables wrote:*G* I was just wondering if anyone else noticed the poor choice of product name.
Re: The Proposition.
I'd take the mill, cause thats one of the humor points to my strip.. she would absolutely sell out for fame, those who read the strip would get the huor of that immediately I would think.
No reason you can't have it work in your favor I don't think.

Re: The Proposition.
Anyone who thinks Vanilla Death is a poor choice of name for a soda because its initials are VD needs to stay out of corporate branding.
Also, how very shocking to learn how much more integrity I have than all of you fuckers.

Re: The Proposition.
Would anyone but me be very happy to just have the million dollars because it's a whole lotta freaking money? I mean... I don't think I'll have a million EVER in my life, I wouldn't even have second thoughts... I'm pretty sure a million dollars would make me happier than my comic does
