What's the Weirdest Thing You've Done for Your Comic?

Post by Jekkal »

We already know a few us us take our comics seriously... so let's find out HOW seriously, by admitting to a few of the sillier things we've done for the sake of our respective comics.

I'll start:

In the midst of designing bodysuits for the Last Resort teams, I got into considering banner design for the different teams as well . . . and to make a long story short, I got completely wrapped up in almost everything Wikipedia had to say about Heraldry. You know you're taking a new level of weird with the comic when you start wondering how to make your outfits comply with the Rule of Tincture.

Closest I can come is probably the sequence earlier on where the kids took a series of strips to explain the finer points of cricket to the audience.

It was greeted with both appreciation and confoundment by many readers, often at the same time.

I dont' know if these would be considered outright silly:

1) I drew my main character's family tree- mainly so I wouldn't get the names mixed up.

2) When I visited Paris last summer I carefully documented the city so that I became familiar with Mona's hometown- I went to the neighborhood where I decided she grew up in and looked for the local schools, trains, and hangouts.

3) I did the same thing in Los Angeles, where my character lives now (minus the local school thing- b/c she's not in school, and minus the train, b/c LA doesn't have a train on the West side).

3)I've been learning French.

I tend to tell stories about the characters as if they are real people. In some cases those who don't know aboot the comic ask how they are doing.

I don't know about the strangest thing I've ever done for my own comic, but this is the strangest thing I've ever done for someone else's:

Does masturbating to your comic count?

Depends on who you ask and what your comic is about.

I don't really do anything weird for it. Unless you count taking notes at all times and writing down everything that's interesting for the purposes of comicking. Which I guess it isn't.

Oh yeah, I've taken naked pictures of myself for reference.

I just draw naked in front of a full-length mirror at all times. Saves time that way.

umm... I made a myspace page for my comic and I am working on recording an album as the characters in my comic.

and I created a minicomic that I pass around at bars and clubs by telling people, "I found Jesus, and he wants you to read this" which makes them think "what the fuck?" then they see the cover and go "what the fuck?"

*ponder*

Is the comic meant to be masturbated to in the first place? XD

-Made excel sheets for personal worth estimation and financing for characters.
-Designed closets for characters, so that I know what they wear. (I can't tell you how helpful that one is.)
-Notes on family trees and birthdays.
-created a character livejournal as an easter egg for the site.
-designed a paper doll game where you can dress up two of the characters.
-watched videos on how cocaine is produced (that was actually very interesting)
-learned how to say the rosary (when I'm agnostic with pagan leanings)
-read up on how prison tattooing works, how to make a homemade tattoo gun, and what the symbolism of the images are.
-designed floorplans for pretty much all the regularly occurring houses in the strip.

... I think that's about it for now. It's not just a comic. It's a psychosis.

It's about fluff, angst, drama, comedy, gaming. Come play in our world.

Pictures........DIIIIIRTY pictures......

Also picking roommates based upon who would do well in the comic. Plus I put a bag on a guy's head because he couldn't keep a straight face. And then there was the time I bought a big bag of flour to simulate snow/cocaine.

Though hands down the weirdest thing I've ever done for my comic? Start talking to YOU CRAZY PEOPLE!
