ok. so i'm sitting reading my KeenSpace Digests and I see this topic come up. Now some people seem to think KeenSpace should do this or do that just to keep them as a "client". They think they should invest money in additional bandwidth, RAM, drive space etc.... What they don't take into account is that no matter how much you have it will never be enough. Keep in mind they're operating FREE hosting to ANYBODY and EVERYBODY. when the Space first started there were well under 100 active strips. i remember when it was only about 42 or so. cripes, now we gotta be well over 200 or more. right? unless they close up new accounts they're NEVER going to have enough resources to keep the Space operating above capacity. Not to mention, as DamonK stated, this is a charity effort so far. The Keen Overlords, to my knowledge, make NO money from the Space. I would not hazard to guess that they actually LOSE money on the endeavor. So why do it? Well, perhaps they want to give back to the community by fostering a sense of closeness and providing a service to those who need to expose their work. at best the only thing they get out of it is a sense of satisfaction at helping out others and MAYBE perhaps a few truly talented cartoonists to groom for Spothood. By the way, they don't just run KeenSpace, the also run KeenSpot and who even knows if they work outside jobs as well to help support themselves and their business efforts. All in all, i think that you "dissenters" should think twice about biting the webhost who gives you free space and automatic services. it may not be perfect, but few things rarely are. as johnT said there are other alternatives. if you don't like the scene here then GTFO. i'm no ass kisser, but at the same time i know a fucking ingrate when i read one. <P>------------------
