Pluggage

Post by Joel Fagin »

People seem to like my tutorials so I was thinking of spreading the word a bit further. There's a pretty low return on investment, though - they're only of interest to webcomic creators after all, and they're a minority.

So I thought I'd ask for plugs. Honest ones, though. Just if you like them and think they're worth plugging. A mention and a link here and there would be great.

(And it'd be a neat bonus if I could get some wannabes reading the tutorials before they make all the usual mistakes. Image)

OK, TBH I still have some areas of "major suckage" but I do actually apreciate the work that you (and your contributors) have been doing and it has been helpful. So heck, it's the least I can do.

(Do not ask for money or sexual favours though, especially when I'm drunk!)

I will endeavour to remember to mention it in what will likely be a giant news post on Friday that noone will read. I'll also put it on my links page at some point.

Update went through, link should be up - normally i'd never be nearly this fast, but i was uploading a bunch of new sample pages anyways.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but would you happen to know of other resources one could put on a resource page? Most of the other links i found were either superceded by the wiki or listed in one of the other two links.

Well, there is a sort of link page on my tutorial site. Bit more complicated than that - but it has a bunch of links.

I sent people off to read your tutorials on many occasions from the Help Center, but often the people I send have already made the mistakes and learned from them.

I guess that's the problem with waiting for people to ask for help... :-?

Edit: not to derail, but I notice that the CGWiki doesn't have a "requested pages" page (or at least not one that I could find). Is there a place where people can make requests for tutorials or additional information about things other than the discussion pages for each article?

I just got... masses of hits. As in, all my other hits from the last year are now a pathetic little flat line at the bottom of the graph next to the Everest slope that just landed on me.

Alas, these are people looking only at my logo design tutorial so it's cool and all but a bit meaningless as far as what I want the site to achieve goes. Some site called stumbleupon found the thing, apparently. Heard of it but never been there. I can't actually find the tutorial in there, mind, but I got the hits.

Anyway, thanks Rob, Tyl, Neo and Killbert!
