Agreed. Coming up with something day in and day out is no slice of pie. Some of us just make it look easy.theSuburbanLetdown wrote:Me too. Some people are so demanding of their free entertainment. I have noticed that some of them mellow out when they try to draw something and realize how much work it actually is.spqrblues wrote:I'm pretty relaxed about filler on other people's sites. 1) Most of us aren't getting paid for this, and 2) I enjoy seeing some guest art or behind the scenes or portraits for variety, and 3) I can click the "next" button. My day won't be ruined if there isn't a new strip on time.
As for filler... I will never ever for the life of me post filler art on the homepage. Stuff like that gets its own section and I might mention it in the news section.
Filler strips, on the other hand, not really anything wrong with that as long as it's in between storylines or something.

I have one guest strip (done by my sister) that was used during one of the notorious dry spells in updates I'm trying not to have anymore. It's still in the archives because right now its the only piece of fan art I have and making a whole section for it seems a bit silly. I'll probably move it to a new section once I have more stuff for said section.

I like the idea of keeping the 'good' filler (like random gags) between storylines, and still even keeping that number down to a minimum if I can help it. The rest of the filler can be in its own section. It will still get noticed by those who want a little extra something.
That way the readers get an uninterrupted story AND they get "bonus" strips.

Some fillers here and there could be a good thing in the right comic. I liked the fillers in RPGWorld, if I remember correctly.
Fillers just wouldn't work in WBK. Everything is just one big story arc, so there's nowhere to insert it. Besides, if we had time to make a filler strip, we would have time to draw a real page instead (at least partly), and then there would be no point...
I'm thinking of the archive all the time, not of whether we update on a given week. Perhaps that's annoying to the readers...

Posting the pencilled versions of some of my strips (the final version is inked) should count as filler, come to think of it. I haven't posted the pencils on CG, but I have posted links to pencils in lieu of a finished comic. Sort of to prove that I really am working on it
What I should do is add one of those progress bars ("pencils 100% complete; inking 10%" etc.).

man, I hate it when people start out with a well-made comic, with a great calculated style, inked and all, just to get tired of it later and make pages in pencil only - I'd say sketches - and to continue like this. It happened to a comic I used to read.
It's a sad case.

It seems like the urge to tell the story outwieghed the time available to draw it. Maybe someday the artist will be able to go back and ink the "filler." Especially if s/he hopes to sell a print version eventually. Live in hope, etc.Eve Z. wrote:man, I hate it when people start out with a well-made comic, with a great calculated style, inked and all, just to get tired of it later and make pages in pencil only - I'd say sketches - and to continue like this.

Robot Comics! Everyone loves robots. Or so I believe.
And I do a daily strip anyway, so it doesn't bug me that much. And besides, sometimes I still get carried away again.

FILLER IS EVIL. Hypocrisy; less evil.
I still have a couple of quasi-fillers in my archive...I really should do something about those.
