Re: stunts
All those people waiting for their big break are people who've actually done all the necessary work up to that point. Unlike you, they've learned their craft and developed their talents and people who see them can appreciate them.packrat wrote: i'll ignore the logic of the last statement on pub vs talent. Unknown genius is proverbial, etc. I CAN quote lots of industry people who mention 'their big break' and it usually comes down to getting ad-time in a mag.
You could have free air time during the superbowl and not get any hits. Your website could be tattooed on Janet Jacket's nipple and no one would visit it twice. Your big break doesn't mean jack if you're trying to hide your complete lack of effort behind "mysterious purposes."
Being able to quote lots of industry people or shove 10 out of 20 of your photocopies at a convention isn't exactly what I would call a sparkling endorsement of your experience.
Man, even zines turn you down half the time? Isn't that a little like William Hung saying your singing isn't quite good enough for his next album?I was getting about 50% placement rate with zines for SF and cartoons.

Dang it packrat, either try to organize your thoughts and write coherently, or go pound sand.
I've taken to advertising by writing very annoying spam offering sex and drugs in exchange for visits to popular webcomics. I also regularly distribute tens of thousands of paper leaflets extolling the virtues of kicking puppies, signed by webcomics worldwide.
I figure eventually everyone on the planet will start to get the idea that webcomics are EVIL. Except my own, which will naturally rise in popularity, being the only comic that isn't actively spamming or sending out leaflets.

And still, the people who posted in this thread probably went to check his webcomic, like i did

I'd put money on that not happening. I wager that his dull little spaz comic about girls in a vapid social circle that wants to bag rich guys will start talking in ways that criticize us for pooping on his great talent.
Something along the lines of two girls watching some other girl who finally got her big break with a rich guy and commenting on how it had nothing to do with her looks or talent or stuff. SEE THE PARALLELS?
I know that the comic is flat out called Stalking Millionares but I still want a medal for figuring that much out. It was not easy. If you came to the assumption that SM was about talking light bulbs you have nothing to be ashamed of. If he drew as well as Rocket Girl tomorrow he will have improved.
Maybe packrat can get a loyal following of hecklers. He's done wonders with that on the forum so far.

In my opinion the two are intertwined. His comic is in the exact same tone of his posts, it has more noise than ideas and he doesn't care to make any effort in either beyond hinting that he does it that way on purpose.
I know I'm ragging on him really hard, but I'm hoping to get the point across that he's got to try a little harder to communicate in his posts and his comics if he wants anyone to care about either. Otherwise this cycle's gonna just keep playing out every month or so when he wanders in and does some more stream of concious nonsense and gets everyone rolling their eyes and spamming the threads each time.

Well, if you're going to critique his comic, give him some solid advice too on how he can be better. Examples and the like. I'm not the mod here, I'm just saying ragging hard on him may not make him change, if he really doesn't know how to change.
Speaking of comics, update Renaissance Ogre already. This makes TWO totally awesome comics of yours that you aren't updating.

art for art's sake.

OK here's a hint.
This is not anything i can use. NOT anything like
applied methods in 'invoke, prevoke, evoke ,provoke.' //Dang. think i mangled that and my notes aren't here.
silence. golden old steroetyping, reaction and thought, as i remember. The quads for art in a communication model, basically. Dunno; I'd haveta go look at something I did 20 years ago while working theater.
sorry Ask for it and i'll dig thru the archives.
ie: ***********
Q relief, relationship or development tonight?
and DON't bend over.
A I'm sitting, idiot...
Q * ack. That's even worse!
*****************
you want color, characters and drama. Sorry, not here. don't want any.
jeez. i've spent 5000 wds onna story about 15 yr olds getting preggers, WITH BLOODY footnotes pointing out what i was trying to say and people would still complain; or miss the point.
(With pollution in fat and DNA breakdown past 25 in males 15 yr olds are the only ones likely to make whole babies these days. The rest willl be poisioned, or broken. 15 yr olds SEEM to be designed for it, too.)
OK, OK, I'm incoherant. I'm good with that.
the art is , well... nasty. Thoughtless, etc.
the site is an abortion. (so? it's the comic that gets taken, NOT the site. )
Dandy. Could I remind you i was asking for the dummies quide to publitity stunts here?
wearing a stalking millionaires t-shirt.. (onna cheerleader?) at a hockey game?

packrat, this is a forum for webcomics, not an exercise in stream-of-consciousness writing. Numerous people have told you that your posts are barely comprehensible and I'm sick of having to deal with it. You're not willing to change, fine, but hardly anybody is willing to make any kind of sense out of your posts. Just think about the reactions you always get before you decide to make more posts.
Everybody else, you can only say "we don't understand you" so many times and you've gone over the limit. In the future, if you plan on saying "we don't understand you" just don't respond instead. Everything turns into an argument when you do so just cut it out. I am so serious about this I am going to repeat it bigger: Just don't respond.
Now all of you buzz off.
