Why Shonen-ai (Boys Love) and Yaoi (hardcore boy's love)???

I'm trying to put together info for a piece on Yaoi and Shonen-ai (Boy's Love) for my blog. I really want your opinion to why women have taken such a liking to this sub-genre of manga. If you have any opinions on the topic at all please share them...even if they sound silly or are just speculatory.

Also you can include your opinion about Yaoi and Shonen-ai. All comments appreciated.

zzzz. I'm a girl and I find most shonen-ai stuff unrealistically exaggerated (and heavily cliche) for the most part.
Perhaps the results runs parallel to guys drawing (or making) girl-on-girl porn.

I can't remember who the heck wrote this comic, maybe SailorPta. It went sorta like:

"My friends are always wondering why I was so into yaoi. Then I realized, It was because you get 2 2 2 guys at once."

I think the attraction is that they aren't really guys. Or at least that they don't act like usual guys. As the strip Nanda posted said.

It does make a lot of sense now that I think about it. I've heard some girls comment on how it's the lovey-dovey relationship part that they like, the emotional passion, etc.

Or it might just seem that obvious because it's such a perfect inverse of the male fondness for lesbians.

Why do men like lesbians?

That’s simple. You have girls that are actively interested in sex and they think that other girls are hot. Men think about sex and hot women a lot. We have large portions of or brain solely dedicated to these topics. A lesbian is someone that your average man would have a lot in common with. Men are just looking for someone to form a deep emotional bond with. Someone they can spend hours with talking about hot women, sex and sports. Throw in the potential of a threesome and not having to look at another man in your porn (See mange stricken bear comment) and your have the perfect storm of attraction.

except for the fact that by definition a lesbian is not physically attracted to men... at least not to the extent a man would want them to be a attracted to them.
