Roll Call

Postby Pi on Fri Jun 01, 2001 12:40 am

Hi, all.
I've noticed this board seems kinda dead. I know there's people out there (over 100 daily, I hear) but they're just not posting.
To fix that, I propose a roll call. Everyone who's here, stand up and tell a little about yourself. Everyone who's not here... well, we didn't want to talk to you anyways.
I'll start.
Hello, everyone. My name is Pi, and I've been reading FS for about three months, and lurking on a lot of boards. I like intelligent conversation, 'hard' sci-fi, a good parody, and awful puns. My favorite webcomics are Schlock, Help Desk, Sluggy, and Faraway Stars.
See, wasn't that easy? Now you try it. Yeah, you back in the corner. I want to see how many people actually visit this forum.
Of course, as an alternative you could just laugh and poke the newbie. I'm okay with that; it'd still make you post to my thread.
-Pi

Well, I've been reading since before it came to Keenspace.
I read so many webcomics...
Still, I think that FS ranks up there with Schlock Merc, Gaming Guardians, and FANS.

Interesting idea...
OK, here we go ('How do I communicate useful information without communicating useful information?')!
I read a LOT of webcomics! Perennial favorites include Sluggy, this one, Exploitation Now, Clan of the Cats, ADVENTURERS!, Darkbolt, ...
Okay, maybe I read TOO MANY webcomics. Anyways, I prefer Science Fiction (Legend of the Galaxy Wars is a good one, now that the author has gotten over a few early problems), but read whatever I like. I comment on occasion (that's why my post number's still well under a hundred), but generally end up being a lurker. I'd try doing fanart, but while I can to some extent draw, I don't trust my faces at all. One imagines an entire webcomic series with the characters' faces never seen.
Me Myself and I live in "if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes" Calgary, of Canada, and attend Software Engineering courses at the university there.

Well, I guess I'll throw my 2cents in here somewheres. I've been doing FS for (uhhhhh) almost 16 months? Stones! Anyway, I read (see links page too many to list). I love finding new comics to browse through, especially indy ones like mine. As long as they have a good story or a good sense of humor. Most recent find was Dedos, and I'll probably go browse the dated keenspace list again shortly to expand my ever-growing bookmark list.
I also do a sluggy tribute page on Sluggy.net, and at one time had a comic called "Tirvar" that has been put on hold (not that anybody ever saw it).
Currently keeping a 1 month head start on FS, so as to keep my throngs of fans at bay I'm also very honored to have Pi start this thread, and that I have about 100 readers.
------------------

Okay, since Tirdun's already replied it kind of make me look bad. I'd better hurry up and reply before BoxJam does.
How long HAVE I been reading FS? I think about a year now, but it's probably slightly less than that. My web comic tastes are wide and varied (as are my tastes in music, movies, and reading material) , but I do have a soft spot for funny Sci-Fi. Currently I read about 40 web comics (although several of those have been on hiatus long enough that it might be more accurate to say I check them regularly).
My currently bookmarked list (in daily reading order, not order of favorites) includes Triangle and Robert, Sluggy, Kevin and Kell, Bruno the Bandit, Out of Fika, You Damn Kid, Absurd Notions, Zwol, BoxJam's Doodle, Snail Dust, ToonBots, all three JoBeth! comics, Chopping Block, Diabolica, Odd Jobs, College Roomies from Hell, Clan of the Cats, Wandering Ones, Pentasmal, GPF, User Friendly, Faraway Stars, Exploitation Now!, Aren't We Real, Boarders and Sisters, Chaos, Inc., Greystone Inn, Ashfield Online, Alice, Bobbins, Elf Life, Schlock Mercenary, Framed!!!, Untitled Again, Nukees, Living in Greytown and Acid Reflux (Whew!).
I've tried to space out the really good ones so that I'm not reading all the best stuff right away. Considering that I have a real job to do, it takes me most of the day to get through my list, even skipping the ones that haven't updated in months. It's quitting time now, and I'm only up to FS, which is almost exactly halfway though the list. I put it there becaouse I needed something to pick me up after User Friendly! User Friendly is in there because it's considered required reading at my job.
Pooga
------------------

Hi I'm Joe, I've never posted on this forum before. I only finished the archieves a few minutes ago. I've been reading a lot of web-comics too, one of my favorites is Sluggy Freelance. It took me ages to find this page (I found it when looking through Sluggy Statistics.)
--Joe

Hey a new reader! WOO! Welcome aboard Joe! For anyone who doesn't know, Sluggy Freelance is another comic out there. Has a few more readers than mine. I do a semi-official fan page called the Sluggy Statistics Page.
There, now everyone is caught up!
------------------
