Here are some general notes on Quicktongue. If you just want to take the story as-is, I'd skip it. If you want to know why Q died and won't take the info given in the story as an answer (as some of you have demonstrated by email) then here you go:<P>1) Her death was not a sudden decision. I had long-planned on having Q's genetic makup be terminal, it made sense for the type of environment she lived in.
2) Q actually played a much smaller role than I had anticipated, overall. It seemed that every time I wrote her into a story arc, it came off looking plagerized from one of the many other "cute talking animals" out there in comic-land.
3) Her death, and the death of any other character on FS will be final. I repeat, final. There will be no Star-Trek-esque returns from the great beyond.
4) Her death NOW was also long-planned. The crew has been away from Cygma for several months, long after the planet's overhaul by the orbiting object. Q's genetics couldn't hold out much longer. I had always planned on making it tie together with the crew's last, brief time within the Cygma Tau system.
5) There will be no other talking "pets" on the ship in the near term (meaning for the next year or so, since I've written most of that out).
