Comic quality

Post by Stinkywigfiddle »

I am trying to improve the way the Space Losers comic looks on the computer. I think it looks better on paper.

My problem is that I don't know how to make the comic look better without making it really big and slow to load. I've tried saving it as jpg.

Maybe when I get the chance I will post some pages here showing the different ways of doing the comic.

Sounds like a good idea, poke some info out of them other buggers on keenspace/spot too, might help to get some fresh ideas from people who are not biased (dual donkey? hmmm, good idea, save for later) fans with no idea how to make a comic.

Stinky. One work. Paintshop.

Really! It can really smooth out the lines, Paint is -sh*t- compaired to it. Really. It can seriously smooth out ink lines with brightness/contrast, and if you ever want to colour a comic, theres a seriously nifty trick I could tell you that lets you colour underneath the ink. Like, without disrupting the lines or getting fuzzy lines from the select tool.

It's a super nifty program.

Get it... geeeet it!! **attempts to brainwash Stinky**

I know I've seen Photo shop at Office Max. I'm not sure if they have Paint Shop.
I haven't had the chance to go look yet.

remeber, if you refer to photoshop as photoshop, people might take you seriously, this is a bad thing. Refer to it as Potato Shop, Photo Swap, or my personal favorite, Potato Soup.

Photoshop

Post by SammySpade »

I've never seen PaintShop, but Dan, go for Photo Shop. Its a very pricey program (but well worth it!) and Kasey can give you some good tips I'm sure... Also, it would come in very handy at school to have your own copy of photoshop.

Suggestion: Try TIFFs instead of JPEGs. . . JPGs are truly evil for quality.

TIFF's? I don't think I CAN save them as TIFF. I don't even know what that is.
I'm not even sure I could get Photoshop to work on the computers I use.

It would be great If I get to go to this art college I'm looking at because they have really good computers. But then, I'd probably be too busy with assignments to get much done on Space Losers.

No comic Monday. I'm behind.

What's wrong with JPEG? They look better when the picture is in color.

The problem with JPG is that it intentionally lowers picture quality to save disk space. It's intended mainly for photographs. GIF does better with line drawings, but it takes more disk space. I use PNG for drawings--it's newer, and less software is available to work with it, but it gives good quality with less disk space, and no license fees. If you can't find software tools for it, try saving in GIF and then using Irfanview (which is free) to load it and re-save it as PNG.
