Post by Halo299 »

oh my god,

words can not desrcibe how awful this is.

a guy over on my comics forum posted this and i simply had to share it.

Macho Man Randy Savage's RAP album

Here

most of the tracks won't play...but after listening to the ones that did play, i'm not sure that is a bad thing.

My roommate this past school year had that album. He was quite fond of it, especially when I was trying to sleep. Dirty pigfeltcher roommate.

Just add one more thing Randy can't do to the list.

Maybe he could take up sky diving.

I saw "Vincent Leguardia Gambini Sings" on CD at the Good Will yesterday.

I almost bought it out of morbid curiosity.

Maybe Schwarzenegger will do an opretta.

I rather like the Star Wars Holiday Album myself. XD A true atrocity right there.

Hmm. Rap. As usual the "c" is silent.
"It is the difference between the unknown and the unknowable, between science and fantasy - it is a matter of essence. The four points of the compass be logic, knowledge, wisdom and the unknown. Some do bow in that final direction. Others advance upon it. To bow before the one is to lose sight of the three. I may submit to the unknown, but never to the unknowable. The man who bows in that final direction is either a saint or a fool. I have no use for either."

Not all rap is terrible, of course Randy's ablum surely isn't an example of good rap. Plenty of good rap artist exist if you know where to find them, of course mainstream rap has gone down the gutter.

Oh shi- first post and I'm defending rap! I won't be very popular here. :P

It's not so much that rap is inherantly awfull its just that the only stuff promoted is that least deserving, this seems to be the case with much black music, jazz and blues became associated with the attempts of the white middle class, rap puts forward a ridiculous hypersteryotype of ghettoised areas and hiphop just turned into silly clothing.
Gah sorry ranting, to me it just seems that any form of music that began with protest and rebellion soon becomes diluted to something more paletable to the majority, music is all to often superficialy contraversial while remaining at its core conservative.
Word to the wise, never go out clubbing for seven hours just before an exam.

the thing is, i like to listen to rap, when it is done well.

It is a really impressive type of vocal that a lot of people can't pull off.

but sadly, not doing it well, doesn't mean you won't get loads of radio airplay and tons of retards running around eating up every mispronounced, crime/poverty glamorizing word of it.

Thing is I'd rather listen to poetry than rap. I'd rather listen to poetry a hell of a lot more, and by poetry I meen the last poets or similar. That might make me old fashioned, but I'd prefer something with meaning than something about popin caps, hitting bitches, and phat bling mmkay?

You gotta understand that outsied of America, rap, hip hop and the rest are mostly enjoyed and performed by what I believed are technicaly known as whiggers.
yeah. You heard me. Most of the rest of the world didnt import black slaves. As such the people hwo aqdopt it are those who WANT a persucition complex. its not nice.
And you know what sort of crap whiggers like.
I'm certain good rap exists. But im also certain that it's not worth persuing outside of north america.
So in sumaiton, due to what rap we are exposed to, in the eyes of most of the world rap is pure unadulterated shit with little to no redeming value, and for the rest its "Oh so kewliez, i wish i was black and opressed"

Dont take it personaly. Instead be prepared to back your arguements of non crapness up with rapidshares of songs that DONT SUCK.
kplsthx.

The problem is that rap used to be dangerous and unauthorized. Take "Cop Killer" just as a not so random example. But it was quickly tamed, neutered and mostly turned into variants of "I've got a great big tonker and lots of money" and "I'm a criminal." The same thing happened to rock and roll and jazz, but it took longer.

At its best rap is poetry. Gil Scott Heron, the grandaddy of rap, did it very well with "Whitey's on the Moon" and "The Revolution Will Not be Televised".

Are rap and hip-hop the sole cultural property of the descendants of slaves? I don't think so. When Africans (African Africans, not the descendants of slaves) use Big Band sound or rap is it less authentic? You can't beat Howlin' Wolf or Son Seals for the Blues, but Stevie Ray Vaughn and Charlie Musselwhite can hold their heads up with anyone. Are Blacks oreos when they play Western classical music? Should we let many, maybe most, of the indigenous musical traditions of India and Japan go extinct simply because more Europeans the locals are interested in them? Is someone from outside the original ethnic group a race-traitor or pathetic wannabe for enjoying that music?

In a word, no.

The real stupidity comes when people believe that they can put on a different culture like it was cosplay.

Really? I think I speak for everyone when I say that we'd say exactly the same thing about what passes for mainstream rock these days.

Mainstream...rock....??? oh, you mean pop w/ guitars.

(sigh) some of it i like, but most of it is just so...well, you know.

and then they try to make it sound all new and hardcore by adding rap into it. :P
