I went shooting after the reception, and had great fun trying out Tony's (husband's friend) 1911 and CZ-75. I found out that I oddly prefer .45 to 9mm in terms of handling and kickback.
The larger frame and longer barrel of the 1911 probably helped, as did the slower round, but the 9mm was giving me bad flinches and the .45 wasn't.
I actually got rounds into the 10 and 10x rings with the 1911, so I had a pretty good time on my first shoot.

I stink at handguns. Im decent with them but ... I stink with them.
Rifles on the other hand I have had nothing but good luck with shooting.
(And, btw, be on the lookout for Starwind when she is around a rifle. I have it on good authority [including all members of her family] that Starwind has been known to take a .223 out to the practice range and cut the centers out of the targets at 100 yards [91.4 meters] with little effort and can bullseye the same targets at 300 yards [274.3 meters] regularly.)

Ahhhh the 1911, probably one of the finest handguns ever made. Classic design, unchanged after nearly 100 years (refined yes, but not changed), reliable, accurate, and an all around *better* gun on average.

We were discussing concealment options and the joke was that I could carry it in a shoulder rig despite its size, because my bountiful tracts of land would hide the pistol grip.
... yeah.
Or, you know, in an inside thigh holster. I go commando nowadays, so if I ever have to lift my skirt to fire it'll buy me a second or two. And someone'll die happy.

Girl, what the hell are you doing near a computer? You're a new bride on your freaking honeymoon. There are more important things to do than type at a bunch of perverts. Show that man of yours the whole "Forsaking all others" thing was the best idea he ever had!
Kids these days. No idea about priorities.
Besides, you have a lot of really good options for carrying a 1911. Shoulder holster (I recommend Jim Noble's inverted holster) or concealment coat/vest (5.11 tactical, Corronado Leather and SigArms all make great garments specifically designed for concealed carry). There are even good SOB rigs. If you carry inside of the thigh you'll have to walk like John Wayne to keep from snagging yourself. It will also look really strange when you sit down.
