Hell Raisers (Comic Promo and Information)

Post by WingsofFury »

I was thinking of getting a KeenSpace account to put up a comic a friend of mine have been working on for a while and wanted to know if anyone would be interested in the concept, or if it would be a waste of time.

The basic plot of the comic is simple: Two half-demons get a job going up to earth and sending back demons who have either spent too much time on the mortal plane or shifted the balance of power greatly in favor of either heaven or hell. Though, being rather powerful demons who haven't had a chance to adjust to the shades of gray that earth posesses, their core strategy is to mutilate anything that moves. The majority of the comic chronicles Meph (short for Mephistopholes) and Noz's (short for Nozatramos) varying escapades on our plane, with a few appearances by Satan himself (not quite an all powerful being, more like a greasy lawyer) and the boy's fathers (Cthulhu and Asmodeus respectively). I was simply wondering if anyone from the Ghastly's board would be interested in reading it before I end up wasting countless hours trying to perfect the damn thing like I usually do with something I put out into the public domain.

*The following is a quick sketch I did while bored in english class that Turner felt was post-worthy*

Kill for gain or shoot to maim, we don't need a reason.
The golden goose is on the loose and never out of season.
Blackened pride still burns inside this shell of bloody treason.

Someone needs to check out Guide for the Novice Webcomic Artist before you end up with something like this:

Meanwhile, keep on drawing. :)

I'd like to note that the actual comic looks more like this:

The previous sketch was an example of the effect of Lit class on my fragile psyche.

hate to sound critical, but you may want to explore a more unique territory than "(quasi) deamons come to earth with a mission, but just go blow shit up". Its been done, and horribly I might add. And before you say "oh, but this one will be different" stop and realize that the whole premise is flawed. Its something that 12 year olds do while playing D&D.

If you're dead set on this theme though, do something interesting and attention grabbing. Get to know the 9 act plot model and use it, but don't forget that comics that aren't professionally drawn HAVE to be well written. Take the lesson of Unka G. When he started, his art was alright, but his plots, jokes, gags, and characters were all top notch. THAT is why this comic has done so well.... also the nudity and tentacle fucking.. but its mostly the other stuff.

It's not that they just go up to earth to blow shit up. The simple fact is, Meph and Noz are pretty young for demons and a job that usually amounts to talking a demon into coming back down to hell dissolves into a bloody mess because of a stupid mistake one or the other has made during the palaver. Meph tries to be a womanizer but fails miserably because (sadly) most human women aren't interested in a human/mollusk hybrid from the abyssal plains. Meph is usually more quiet and reserved than Noz and is heading to earth to prove to his father that he's just as good as his full demon brother, plague. Noz, however, was brought up in hell's spotlight as the son of a demonic aristocrat by the name of Asmodeus. He accepts the proposition of going up to earth because he's sick of alway's having to act so composed and would really rather kick back and enjoy a few beers during his spare time rather than attend meetings discussing hell's newest developments in torture like his father wishes him to. Meph prefers bladed weapons because, as the son of what is basically a torture machine, he has a sadistic streak and prefers to bleed his targets if worse comes to worse. Noz, on the other hand, uses various firearms, believing that the more quick and efficient the kill the better. If this still seems cliched, please let me know as I'm constantly striving to improve my writing, and a number of the story archs for Hell Raisers are some of my favorite work.

Without seeing an actual story, I'd just be blowing smoke up your ass. So lets see some finished product.

All I'm saying... the whole "deamons coming to earth and fucking shit up" no matter what you layer on top of it, or around it, has been done. Its been done to DEATH since the 1500s and it continues to be done to death. There have been some very noteworthy examples of doing it well.. Dante'e Divine Comdey, Hellboy, Bedazzled (the Dudly Moore version, not that I didn't like Liz "Would cut off my own face to lick the crotch of her week old panties, but god damn, have a sandwich" Hurley's verion, but it wasn't the better of the two), the first Hellraiser movie, the Exorcist, just to name a few more well known pieces.

If you think you can do it well, then by all means, lets see your chops.
