You can't do tentacles on television!

Post by Fire Storm »

Yet another tentacle monster bit on normal television:

On Megas XLR, Jamie dreamed about being a mutant and just guess what he wanted to be? Come on. Guess...

Please?

Oh, all right, I'll tell...

A tentacle monster! And, of course he is surrounded by bubbly laughing girls.

"These tentacles are so long!"

Maybe later I'll post pics/video if someone wants.

So... anything else from other shows recently?

The random funniness of tentacles on Code Name Kids Next Door, but used so subtly, bwaha ha giant turnip with tentacle roots.

Then there's always the classic Red Dwarf episode Chamele, "If Kryten wants to take an emorphous green blob out to dinner for a discreate teta-tentacle..."
So just what is Gainax trying to say here?

More proof that Megas XLR is the greatest show that has ever been and ever will be.

I love Megas, as an Homage to anime and the giant robot genre in general (I love in one episode, it may be the first, when Megas' chest opens up and the front end of the Yamato pops out and fires a blast of energy), while still being a thoroughly american show, knowing winks to the anime culture aside.

Wait... is the blonde in the corner actually kissing one of the tentacles?

Don't forget about the homage to video games and sci-fi, like Super Fabio Brothers and REGIS quoting HGTTG.

"DON'T PANIC. YOU WILL ALL BE DESTROYED."

And lets not forget that the king of b-movies himself, Bruce "Boomstick" Campbell, has graced this show with his cameo not once but TWICE, both times with quotes and references to Evil Dead/Army of Darkness AND Bubba Ho-Tep.

"Groovy."

Let's not forget the giant robot with a shotgun for one hand and a chainsaw on the other.

At first, I thought it was typical anime. But then... I started watching it more and more. Hell, even my WIFE likes the show, and she typicailly hates what I watch (South Park, Drawn Together, etc)

Yeah, that was a cross between Ash from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness (you already knew that) AND Elvis from Bubba Ho-Tep.

That's right everyone, they actually fused two of Bruce Campbell's greatest roles into the greatest giant robot that Megas has ever torn apart.

(Ultra Cadets' robots notwithstanding)
