Though on a more serious note, after looking at the county-by-county breakdown for the election (and seeing a couple other maps someone pulled up at work) it looks like the results of this election are the revenge of rural America against us stinky, liberal, gay-lovin', pagan city-dwellers.

County by county maps always look like that, even when democrats win. Oregon is 90% red, but the state went blue... BECAUSE NO ONE LIVES OUT THERE. Half the state is desert, there are more cows than people east of the mountains. It's more or less the same everywhere in the country, there is a LOT of open space out there, but most people live in the cities, and the election is based on people voting, not acres voting.

As a moral atheist, you can probably see how this disturbs me, at least slightly.

That's pretty much how I feel. I am just thankful that most people that I know don't really bring up the topic of religion with me. Yeah, I am invited to a few religious ceremonies (weddings, baptismals for my upcoming cousin, etc), but that's a little different.

I am fairly moral, but not for reasons of "But God will punish me if I don't!"

I actually compare religions more and more with cults. They tell you what to do, you give them money, and people are willing to fight and die all in the name of their god.
