You might not have been, but I had several working components for it built about 8 years ago. Unfortunately, they are kinda assembled into a base defense grid, which also happened to be pulled into a pocket dimension when I jumped ship from that world. The thing's also 10 miles in diameter.

I'm gonna need a good towing capacity to pull this one out.

::dives back into the pocket dimension to try and find it... Seriously, how did I lose a ring 10 miles wide?::

Well, it was designed as an anti-personnel perimiter defense. Mostly psychological, really...

It's alright Toawa, you're not the first builder to loose a giant ring. I just hope the attitude jets are still working... you did put attitude jets on it right?

Uhh.. Well, truth be told, I never thought of them.

All I have is:

1 x Ring (16 km diameter, 4m wide, 20 cm high)
Lots x Ofuda (to keep the critters in)
10 x 50 MT Neutron bombs (to clear the area should the critters get out)

Since it was sitting on the ground when it was created, and meant to be used in terrestrial environments, I never did design in attitude thrusters. I did consider painting on a racing stripe though, but do you realize how much paint that would have required?

Yes, the racing stripe (at 1.5m wide) would only take 2123 gallons of paint, and you'd still have some left over.

Who's on for bets as to which one is more expensive in time and money? I say the Tentacles!

If Toawa can provide me the specs for the tentacles, then I can give you those numbers.

Of course it just occured to me.. where would this racing stripe be? My figures are for a strip around the outside diameter, but since this thing was built on the ground, I may have read those stats wrong and a 1.5m wide strip could just be too damn wide.

I could see that working.

Kite: I've got a new job.
Me: Really?
Kite: Yep, painting racing stripes on tentacles. Eight bucks an hour.
Me: Really, that dosen't seem like much.
Kite: Yeah, but it's all I can afford.

Yeah, I think you did read it wrong. The device is only 20 cm high. (It is meant to be walked over, when deactivated.) The 4m part is the distance from the inside circle to the outside circle. (If it was a sidewalk around a building, the building is 10 miles wide and the sidewalk is 4m wide.

In fact, it wasn't until about 20 years ago before they stopped being used (because of too many widows being made).
shoot, thats the FIRST thing i did with the holsters for my CZ-52 & 1895 Nagant, was to cut the flaps off & replace them with retaining straps

ooooh, ok. That seriously reduces the amount of paint you're going to need. We're talking more like 155 gallons (for a 10cm stripe), which is a hell of a lot cheaper.

As for painting a racing stripe on every tentacle.. how many tentacles are we talking, and how thick are they?
