I use Firefox, Spybot, and Hijack this to kill spyware myself.
Most people have heard of spybot/adaware. Hijack this is sort of a manual removal utility that identifies things that have spyware like behavior and lets you decide for yourself. Available here:

I think part of the linking to each other is to manipulate the search engines. Your relevance in search engine is determined by how many people link to you. So if they all link to each other they all go up in page rank. Going up in page rank gets them more hits and allows whatever actual advertising they have to get more click throughs or alternatively infect PCs with spyware. If you can get high up for a search for a sexually related word you could potentially make a fortune.
It is the same mechanism a lot of those google pranks use. The first was
"Weapons of Mass Destruction", then
"Miserable Failure", and
"French Military Victories" popped up. People simply has many people link to their page for the topic.
So theoretically you could open your own toplist/porn site and use it to data mine. Then proceed to strike deals with other sites to have them link you in return for you linking them while spreading your site around through spam and link free for alls (you type in a site address and they keep a list of like the last 100 typed in,
example.) You would have to be a bit of an asshole, but then again I don't think the people going this route care if everyone hates them.

Thumbnail sites are a funny thing. Rather often there is a chance of actually getting to the page they advertise although it seems to be small, at least the ones I've visited.
Right click on the link, copy to clipboard, paste into url, find embedded url and go to it. If the link is not dead yet you will get the pictures, otherwise you will get redirected somewhere. Someone should make a Firebird extension which does this automatically.

I can't pretend I'm as clean as Gods fingers, and frankly this whole issue has pissed me off once or twice too, but I seem to have better luck than the rest of you. If I work out what my secret is, I'll let you all know. (now that's one hella secret, so secret, even I don't know what it is!) In the meantime, H-Kat has indeed done us all a great favour! (P.S, does anybody know where I can find an Avatar-suitable Biohazard symbol? You'd have thought they'd be easier to come by...)

Yeah, no shit. Hell, if I could find my old copy of 3d Studio, I'd render myself up a new one. As it stands, I got mine from the band Biohazard, and I modified it in Photoshop. Cheap and quick.
