You were very right to beat the little cretin. I hope you hit him a few times for me.
Copyright attaches automatically to any creative work produced, but it can be sold. In many cases, particularly in the past, the recording compan would acquire some or all of the rights to music when it was recorded and released... Those rights can be bought and sold, in all or in part, for unlimited or very limited uses. This is how Michael Jackson was able to acquire the rights to the music of the Beatles, for instance, and how you can find yourself hearing the Stones pitching C2 on TV.squidflakes wrote:Sorry for veering the thread back to the topic of fair use and parody, but I was thinking in the shower this morning, and somewhere between capping the shampoo and washing my ass, it hits me. If the RIAA wants to make copyrights so iron clad, that if you even humm the tune without paying, they can have you murdered, how the hell are they going to release some %50 of the "music" thats coming out these days.
Ever notice that half the songs on the radio are either crappy remakes or contain a great song, only it's been "sampled" so whatever Flavor of the Week can yell shitty poetry over the top?
How does that fit in with musical copyright? Do all of these artists retain rights to the music, or can a recording company do as it sees fit with the work?
There used to be this bar in Simcoe I would visit when I'd come home from Toronto for a visit(may still be there for all I know). I was there with my friends one night, this was when Vanilla Ice was at his peak 15 minutes. This cute, young, fresh out of highschool girl came up to the DJ (who was playing "Under Pressure") and asked who it was. The DJ told her it was "Under Pressure" by David Bowie and Queen. She put her hands on her hips and said in an angry tone "Well I don't think you should be playing it. These guys totally ripped off Vanilla Ice."squidflakes wrote:Great rage and furious anger came down on the poor little bastard who was in my store, and upon hearing the first riff from under pressure said
"Woah! Cool! I haven't heard Vanilla Ice in like forever."
"This is Queen and David Bowie" I said
"Dude, they totally ripped off Vanilla Ice."
The beating, it was through
Fuck me! It's a god damn epidemic.Ghastly wrote: There used to be this bar in Simcoe I would visit when I'd come home from Toronto for a visit(may still be there for all I know). We all just stood there with the same open-mouthed look of disbelief and unanimously burst out laughing.
The girl got very pissed off and left.
"Little Squid, what do you want to be when you grow up?"cjburgandy wrote:And then there's me, who was infactuated with David Bowie as a child. (I wanted to be just like him in the movie Labrynth. Big hair, tight pants and an endless army of muppets at my command)
Jeez. You have NO IDEA how right you are.squidflakes wrote:If the RIAA wants to make copyrights so iron clad, that if you even humm the tune without paying, they can have you murdered
I so very resemble that remark...cjburgandy wrote:I've been lucky enough to be best friends with a huge queen fan. Not only is she a huge Queen Fan, she's also a mean, tough bitch. I don't think anyone would have said Queen ripped anyone off while she was in the room from fear that she'll rip their beating heart out and play hackysack with it.

If there are more Vanilla Ice fans in the world than a 15 round clip can reasonably be expected to handle, then we've got some serious problems.MNsane wrote:i'm gonna need more ammo thenRantinAn wrote:giggles at website. fucking vanillia ice fans need to al lbe exicuted.
