I was just diagnosed with reflux/gerd a few months ago (though it's evident now I've had it for years, it just hasn't gotten seriously bad until now). I was at the point where if I ate, it hurt, if I didn't eat, it hurt, it just hurt. I used to drink Mylanta straight from the bottle. I've been on Prevacid but it really isn't working too well. I'm begining to think the only really option is to just stop eating period. I've already had to give up everything I love anyway. :

Ok. Now. HentaiCat. You're hot. You're interesting. You're funny. So get your ass optimistic because you are girl worthy material. Ok, maybe it's not the best to go skirt chasing unless you're just after some ass. But if you want a relationship, ass included, you can do it!!! we know you can. all it takes is some guts, a sharp wit, and some common sense.

Same goes for you swordsman! but you don't seem as depressed about it...

*sigh* I was never really like this before, hell a few mouths ago I seemed much better off, now all I seem to do is go from being so angry I can't really think straight to being so depressed that my modeling razor is looking like a nice escape. I really need to work on this, it seems that at least once a day I feel worthless and that feelings reinforced by the fact that no human has ever taken an interest in me (unless you count the internet)

It's odd... I know that my self esteem is shit, but I still can't seem to make myself feel any better even though I know my view of myself just might really be much worse then I really am...you know?
*nods* HC does look good! so stop with the "i am horrible".. ok i know.. not easy. suffered from it from years due to being stuck in this fucking wrong body.. but as long as you think you look horrible you give off the wrng vibes/feeling/whatever... if you belive in yourself people notice and you become more attractive.. catch 22 anyone? *sigh*
Well, I ACT happy around most people, ask any of my friends and they would tell ya that I'm a happy, confident, care free kind of guy...
HC, I'm not really a huge anime fan, but I go anyway. Most cons have a HentaiFest at some point. (usually at midnight
In that case...Do I have to dress up? And if I do, can you think of anyone that might get as many girls as that one metro sexual from sailor moon and still be cool?

Sounds like literal clinical depression, HC. That'll eat at your confidence like nothing else, and I think the importance of confidence has already been covered. Seriously, if it is depression, no number of compliments or amount of good advice will fix the underlying clinical problem. Google it, or listen to Love Line or something, see if what's eating you up (and stopping you from getting laid - believe me, there are some really, really goofy fucks out there getting laid, you DEFINATLY can) is actually an irrational, psychological issue. Either way, desperation and self-loathing eminate from a person like stink from roadkill, and will keep women away almost as well.

As to the chronic suffers of heartburn, you all have my sympathy. I only get it from an overabundance of sugar/simple starches (an oft overlooked cause, it seems), cinnamon, or rum, but it's absolutly horrible (I'm sure you've noticed).

You don't HAVE to dress up, but it IS fun.

Lesse.. these days an Inuyash costume will still net you some tail, as will just about anything from Gravitation.

Wouldn't the Gravitation cosplay be risky though? I mean Gravitation is a Yaoi Manga, if any of the girls are like my friends they'll be trying to get him to kiss another guy.

On second thought, he might get that anyway

Not necessarily... A lot of so called "mental disorders" are basically diagnosed by degree, anyway. A normal person is a "little" depressed, a "little" manic, a "little" etc., etc., etc. It's just when it starts getting in the way of normal life and happiness, does it take on the label. (Add into the mix the stigma that comes with that label, and things get complicated.) Moreover, we all suffer from an inescapable sampling problem, in that we only have one sample upon which to base our comparisons: ourselves.

Though I was never officially diagnosed (and never sought a diagnosis) I believe I was depressed for about four months starting in October 2004 (after hearing "Seasons in the Sun" for the first time in years) and ending in March 2005 (when a rather disasterous market turn basically forced me to get a job, which distracted me enough that I started feeling better.) It was quite informative; before then I always figured I'd not have to worry about suicidal thoughts, because I'm the kind of person who'd want to stick around to observe the reaction. At the deepest point of those four months, that desire was gone. Hardly suicidal by any stretch, but it was one layer of protection that I'd hitherto taken for granted. (It's back now, BTW.)

I also had some rather odd sleep disturbances (I couldn't sleep in my basement "bedroom" anymore, because of the coldness and lonliness, (and the spiders), and I found that when I was laying down, trying to get to sleep, I'd get stuck in existential quandries and couldn't get to sleep over the loudness of my internal monologue. I never did go back; I've been sleeping on the TV room floor for a year now. I've made makeshift futon out of one of those knobly foam pads and two Megatokyo blankets. My mother is still wondering what the hell is wrong with me; she still thinks its the spiders.)

For the three days bracketting Christmas 2004, I'd have waking dreams, where my eyes would tell me that I'm alone in the dark TV room, but my mind was telling me I was in the middle of some argument somewhere. (I don't remember quite what it was about; it involved gold and warring kingdoms of some sort.) I'd have to get up and walk around for a bit before I'd get fully awake and the argument would stop.

When I was depressed it was because of school. I had friends, they also would have told me I was a'ight.

Things patched up when I started taking college classes for highschool credit. But now I am free forever from highschool, having graduated this winter.

Oh, well in that case is obvious that you're too worked up to sleep, and I suggest switching to something less inflamatory to the senses.. like a S*P blanket.

Well, like I said... I dont think its anything that bad, Sure I find myself feeling worthless or hopeless about once a day or so, but I can sleep fine and I dont feel bad ALL the time... like right now I feel so/so...Besides, even if by so small chance I do have something like this, I'm already having enough social problems with out having to add "depression"

Woah, woah woah.. since when is a tuxedo considered a metrosexual thing? Its a freaking Tux man. If you were wearing a pink silk shirt under it, maybe metro, but a black and white tux? Naa, its called dressing to impress.

Besides, just imagine you're cosplaying James Bond. No fictional character gets more action than James Bond.

That image is from the girls point of view understand. Besides, the Japanese have completely different ways of.. you know, that.

But, hey, not everyone can pull it off. Just go and have a good time. Meet some nice girls and hopefully you'll get to show them your tentacle.

Oh kei so I just want to see pics of cute guys cosplaying Ukyo...

How about Hiei, sleavless blackshirt, black pants, white headband, small pearl around the neck, spike your hair abit instant Hiei... err... oh kei I'm done.
So just what is Gainax trying to say here?

On the note of depression, its one of those things that can really sneak up on you, and something you often don't even realize is wrong until you start looking back on things over a period of time, and realize that something is amiss. Honestly, I'm in the stages of trying to shake a rather long depression spell also, but mine has been caused by very specific things [things that I'm reasonably certain nobody here would want to bother reading about]. Its a vicious cycle though, as depression just tends to lead to more of itself, leaving the depressed person often simply unwilling to help themselves up again. Forfeit, however, isn't all that great either. All it is, is easy. And it's just like an addiction, that the first steps toward fixing a given problem is acknowledging it as a problem.

On the topic of dress-up as whatever, its not about looking a certain way or having people think your something that your not, it's all about completing the fantasy. Not so much for you, but for the others. Nobody is going to bring up to you that dressing up as character A made you look gay on that day, especially once its all over. It's just about those who want to be able to grab at their fantasy. And if the set of people whose attention you would like to attract, happen to have a given fantasy, where is the harm in offering them a sort of physical form to that fantasy. The interest for you comes in with being the source of that completion. In the same sense, so would be kissing another guy in front of them, its for the show, it doesn't mean you even like doing it, just that you are fond of the attention it brings to you.

Of course it is your choice in the end...

Oh yah, high school suicidal thoughts. I remember those. They pass. Find something you enjoy. Try some new things you never know. I was pretty much the quintessential computer geek in high school (and still am pretty much). I spent most of high school in the computer lab and never really left the city. When I was in college I bought a Jeep and started camping and off-roading and found I really loved it.

Try some new things and you may find yourself liking one of them.

And, as far as clothes go, I'm a slob most days but I have some nice suits and a tux. A friend of mine once said "look sharp, feel sharp" which I have always found to be true. When I'm dressed nice and shaved and my hair isn't sticking out all over the place I feel pretty damn confident.

Image

And that is me in my tux with my wife at the Four Seasons in Tokyo. Metrosexual? I think not!
