Several of my online friends have received a rather large post on their boards, titled "its May 5th." You are the author. This post contains a so-called "comic" that was not requested and has already crashed at least one person's computer, whether due to the size or something else. At this point, we know that you posted this same message to at least 58 different boards. You could not possibly be a regular at all of these boards, and I know for a fact that I never saw you before this point. I call you guilty of spamming the Keenspace boards, for no motive that I can see other than to get people to notice you. You've certainly succeeded. We're lodging complaints now. You're pathetic.

I've already posted to the Help boards about the situation, and I invite other affected artists to do the same.If you're trying to get traffic to your comic and board, this isn't the way to go about it. All you've garnished from it is the ire and wrath of many artists AND readers. And quite possibly administrative action by those in charge of Keen.For someone who's hoping to join Keenspace, you're being greivously disrespectful to your potential neighbors. And the worst part is, your post count in other boards continues to increase...we KNOW you are spamming, we KNOW you're STILL doing it, and we want you to STOP. NOW.

sorry guys i just caught this post. i have stopped. its different everywhere on the net, i guess. i did exactly the same thing at megatokyo and got several hundred hits and many favorable responses. the same scenario has occurred at several other boards i frequent, sans the negative backlash im getting here of course. tonight i saw several threads about how dead the boards were, one even asking for posts of ANY kind. i certainly wasnt looking for this type of reaction and now regret my actions. now i only hope you are able to overlook my ignorance concerning how things are done here.[This message has been edited by jedsoon (edited 05-05-2001).]

Speaking as someone who's already been dubbed an official wanker (albeit for much stranger and misconstrued reasons), I find this term to be utterly stupid. Mostly because it sounds dumb. It's like calling someone a "vooshnoovel."But "abject" was certainly a nice touch.

Okay, not to give you the proverbial "kick in the nuts," but that wasn't mass-spamming, and this was. I think.Besides, Keenspace is loaded with more than its fair share of whiney people. It's true. I'm not saying I condone spamming forums ('cause I don't, really), but people here will bitch about ANYTHING. Example: use the word "religion" in the wrong context, and watch the bricks fly.I aplologise to any whiney people who were offended by this post. If you are one of those people (but of COURSE you aren't!), feel free to whine, because you probably would anyway.Whoot!!

in retrospect, i can see it was among the most heinous of newbie errors. judging from some peoples reaction, they have apparently seen others do it many times, or at least enough to get pretty pissed about it.i promise to be good from now on...

I can't really speak for the people who were the most angry at this, but I have a suspicion that the main frustration came from the size of the file. 336K is rather large, when most people try to keep even the comics on their own pages around 50-80K. Not everybody has a superfast Internet connection, and 336K takes a while to load. People just aren't expecting that when they open a message on their forum.If you had posted a message with just a blurb about your comic and a link to your page, you probably still would've had a few annoyed people, but not nearly as much. Some would've complained, some would've followed the link, and some would've ignored it.If you learn from this, though, (as you seem to have), most Keenspacers will forgive and forget. Don't let this keep you from the conversations.------------------

thanx for the encouraging words, as well as further educating me (i apparently need it, although i was beginning to pick up on the file size aspect), not to mention a new reading recommendation.
