hehehe... No, no, Alice really IS a geek though. Not that she minds so much, because the things that "cool" people do aren't near as fun as the things geeks do. At least not to me. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/biggrin.gif"> I think once you get past high school though, you can really pride in your unpopularity. ^_^;;

If I ever had bothered with what other people consider to be "cool", I'd never would have gotten anywhere...<P>Maybe I have made fewer "friends" this way than I might have otherwise, but the friendships I have are lasting.

I know what you mean. Although I've got a lot of "acquantences" or whatever, I can really count all the people I truly consider "friends" on one hand. But they're such good friends, it doesn't matter at all that they're so few. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"><P>Even beyond that, being a geek is just plain fun. "Geek" stuff like roleplaying and videogames take waaaay too bad a rap for what they are. I have eight people whom I count as truely good friends. Half of these are my role-playing group (which meets weekly), and the other half are friends from back at school I still stay in touch with.<P>(I usually meet them when I invite them to my house for some home-cooked Chinese food...)<P>We often have widely different interests, but that's just what makes our conversations interesting. For example, two of my friends are members of the Bavarian government party, which I despise - but we still get along. And I have never felt the need to do something just because others do it (like buying a car, or drinking alcohol), and they accept me for it.<P>(Though I still get lots of offers of free beer...

I wish I had a role-playing group. After graduation, everyone moved and lost touch. Oh well, we're trying to start up a new one. At least, we were at one point, before I started not getting along with one of my friends. >< <P>I know what you mean, there are way too many people who judge people just on what they do, like if they drink or not. Blah.. Although I am lucky enough to say that most of my friends and I have very similar interests, not all of them do. I mean, most of my friends are guys, and they tend to want to do completely different things than me and my one friend that is also a girl. But luckily enough, we don't care at all. We just go with it. ^_~

Our RPG group has been in existence for more than 10 years now, in various guises. It helps that we live in the vincity of an university town (20,000 students in a city of 100,000 people). And while most of us are nearing graduation, it is unlikely that <I>all</I> of us will move away, so the group will likely continue.

Well, not ALL of us have moved, but alot of us have. It's not good having a group with only about 3 people. And one of them I'm not even sure I'd want to be in a group with again because of disagreements. It's very cool you have a more lasting group. Hopefully, we'll be able to start a new one up, but until then, we're doing okay with messageboard roleplaying.
