This past week I met a girl wearing a shirt that said "Intifada." I stared at her for a while, unable to believe my eyes. She noticed, and said that it was the name of a band. She said that it wasn't "infitada," which meant "religious war, or something like that." "Holy war," I corrected. Blonde ditz. <grumble> Well, I didn't question any further because my memory has never been the sharpest, as Esyla will eagerly attest. For those of you who aren't news-savvy, the word is indeed "Intifada," and all morons wearing similar shirts should be bashed over the head with a metal bat-o-knowledge! Band my ass. That word, that concept, is the cause of hundreds of deaths in the Middle East.

Today, I was queueing to buy a Tori Amos album and overheard two nu-metal kids in (identical) Linkin Park hoodies talking.
About the recent Marylin Manson cover of Tainted Love.
And how the original was better.
Except they thought the original was by Tarrie B, who covered it in '99.
Upon returning to my home, I was promptly given a lecture by the neighbour's kid about how I wasn't punk.
This is an 11-year-old in an Offspring shirt, lecturing me about punk integrity.
These kids are damn lucky that firearms are illegal in the UK.

Ignorance about song covers is an epidemic!
But sometimes it's not really their fault...I mean, the average person thinks that Tiffany originally recorded "I Think We're Alone Now".
Few people realize that it was recorded by Tommy James and The Shondells in the late 60's.

Mmm.. Soft Cell goodness.
I was going to comment on these situations, but I forgot what I was going to say in the event of doing other things, so I'll say that sweet dreams song is a good damn song.
And that's the original.

yes, i kicked his ass...with words. of course he didn't realize it, not knowing what the soft spot is and why you shouldn't push on it...
stupidity runs rampant in the punk scene, for exactly what you're complaining about. a guy with spiked hair and an abercrombie shirt (and at the same time, too) once told me that a newfound glory is the greatest punk band ever. to tell the truth, i was surprised he had even heard of a newfound glory so i let him be.
hmm, let me think. another time at school i was looking up the words to "pet cemetary" by the ramones and "i wanna be sedated" was also on the list of lyrics, and the guy sitting behind me said "oh, i wanna be sedated! that's an offspring song, isn't it?"

Shocking ain't it? Tch, youth.
Lots of songs are covers and people don't realise it. The Clash cover I Fought The Law is a good example. But when it gets to the point where some kids think that Green Day (spit spit) wrote Knowledge, I get upset.

"Now I will smash beer bottles on your head! Your HEAD!!"
Overheard on a bus this evening:
Speaker A: "...if you ask me, the government should just lock them up. If they don't like it, fuck 'em!"
Speaker B: "Jesus, that's a bit Kafka-esque isn't it?"
A: "I don't eat Greek food, it's all shit."
*sigh*
