you know the game that you started playing for like 5 minutes and it made you say "damn this is some good stuff" for me it's gotta be any blizzard game (but the one that impacted me most has to be warcraft)

I am all about the Bionic Commando.
Personally, I haven't got the coordination for most games. I think I've actually beaten about... 2 or 3 video games in my entire lifetime. With help! I really like the Sierra and Lucas Arts adventure games... Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight, Sam and Max, Full Throttle, Laura Bow... Phantasmagoria, too. Who put that one out, anyway? The last fast-paced, blow-shit-up game I bought was Aliens vs Predator for the PC. Fun stuff, but I'm awful at it. I still see pixelated aliens eviscerating me when I close my eyes... the horrah, the horrah...
------------------

Probably Chrono Trigger for the SNES. I think it was the best designed and crafted game I've ever played.
Others:
FF7
FF3
Monkey Island
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (PC)
Goldeneye (just for the multiplayer option)
Doom (man, I loved Doom)
------------------

damn. there are so many. it's hard to say that any of these games are the 'best' i've ever played, but after 5 minutes, i'm sure i said, 'damn. this is some good stuff.'
most of those resident evil-genre games.. silent hill, syphon filter, dino crisis, and of course the resident evil series.. mgs is a little different, but i'll throw it in here, too. all of them are just plain pretty.
rpgs.. ff7, ff8, bard's tale 1 and 2, wizardry, ultima underworld, zelda: ocarina of time. that's about 3 years worth of game time right there..
rts.. any of blizzard's stuff. (diablo, warcraft, starcraft..) ancient art of war and ancient art of war at sea.. defender of the crown, battletech, mechwarrior.
i can go old school, too.
we'll do computer games first. zork, planetfall, hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. man, back when games didn't even have pictures. and the ones that did: leisure suit larry, space quest, police quest, king's quest, hero's quest..!
the superman game on the atari rocked. as did adventure and haunted house. pit fall, too. joust was another winner. hell, i even logged some pretty serious hours on q-bert. in the arcades, it was jungle hunt and tron.
tecmo bowl.. all of them. those ate up a good chunk of my youth. any madden game.. the triple play series. kung fu, mario, kid icarus. man, i could go on for a while, here.
then, you have the street fighters. the best of which, in my opinion, was street fighter: alpha. and i'm sure the madpowerbomber will tear me a new asshole for that one. bring it on!
okay, that got a little outta hand. but the absolute best?
wing commander. bar none.
got rice, bitch?!

Damn straight. Just about anything Infocom put out was the shit. Don't forget Wishbringer!
And yeah, Grim Fandango was a damn fine idea, but I was just put off by the 3D... wish they'd have kept with the hand-drawn animation. Same reason I haven't gotten the newest Gabriel Knight game yet.
Dig dug ownz.
------------------

I'm a Tekken girl for sure any and all editions, although right now, all my fighting love is for Tekken Tag.
I've certainly got to give it up for Age of Empires, a game that never gets old or boring. I'll be 75 years old and still playing AoE.
I love my Sims, Diablo, Crazy Taxi, Soul Caliber, Rush 2049, House of the Dead II and Dance Dance Revolution.
So far as old school games go, we're blessed with a good arcade that has the most up to date games and an old school alley. When in said alley, I'm all about Pac Man, Centipede and Space Invaders. I must say, the new version of Pac Man, which Kel got me playing kicks so much ass! It aint'cher momma's pac man!
heh... lookit that BJ smiley

I'd have to go with Final Fantasy IX... I rented it from Blockbuster and finished it in one week, although I logged somewhere around 60 hours on it. I have to agree with Usagi on the Wing Commander too. On the flip side, the worst game I've ever played is Orphan.. gah.. rented it and played for 10 minutes before I was utterly disgusted.
------------------

I can't freaking remember what it was called. Damn I'm sad. It was Lucas Arts...
Day of the Dead/film noir motif...
It was glitchy as hell but had a damned cool aesthetic.
------------------

I remember Virtual Boy! I didn't have one, nor did I know anyone who did, but I spent hours playing with the floor model at Best Buy. That was all kindsa fun. Better than that goddamn Powerglove, at any rate. Anyway, I think they stopped producing it because it gave people seizures and eyeball cancer or something. Isn't that always the way?!
------------------

The best game of all time no doubt is X-Com. Hands down. That game was and remains the hype. I spent far too much time playing that game. I bought it twice, just so I could play it on my playstation when I didn't have my computer at school. I doubt anything will ever equal the fun I had playing that game. It was a perfect game. It prompted some horrible sequels indeed, but the original still stands at the top of my hall of fame list. With second place being owned by River City Ransom. Runners up include Pac-Man and Dig-Dug (and their new makeovers on that Namco Classics arcade machine, the new Pac-man is better then the original), Crazy Taxi, Smash T.V. and Total Carnage, Robotron 2084, Satan's Hollow, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Captain Commando, Final Fight, SunsetRiders, and the perennial favorite Tetris.

I'm an NES/SNES person myself. Ninja Warriors Again is probably one of the best beat em up games that I've ever played. Umihara KawaSe is my favorite puzzle/strategy/action game. The two both SNES games. For NES, I like Monster Party, Sweet Home, and all the Ninja Turtles games.
Rampage was fun too.

Does anyone else remember the Virtual Boy? It didn't do so hot, but I still liked it. If only they had the chance to develop and grow with it. I had like...Red Commander or whatever it was called. And Mario Tennis. Ah...Two games I really sucked at.

The mark of my dignity shall scar thy DNA.
Whee.
Best game of all time? Hm. I'm not sure of a BEST of all time, but there sure quite a few that I adore playing. None of them RPGs, mind you, either. I can't stand RPGs, actually. Point and click isn't my thing.
The first one that stands out is CaslteVania: Symphony of the Night. This game is simply badass. I bought it a long ass time ago when it first came out for the PS and I still own it and I still play it. This is the only game that's had that sort of lasting value on me, ever. I can play and play and play for hours, repeating the same shit over and over and never get entirely bored of it.
Another game, or series of games rather, is Street Fighter. I can't get enough of 'em. I love the gameplay and sheer mechanics of the fighting system, my only down look on the game is that I don't have anyone here that I can play against or that will play with me to actually play. It's usually just to "pass time". My favorites of the series are Street Fighter Alpha 3 because of the look and design, the overall feel and the near endless possibilities you can do. You can play with the newwave SF syles of specials, which have tons of varying options, or you can shut all that shit off and go old school, which is the pure test of SF skill. Which is what I'm dying to play Kento at. I know he's gonna school me, 'cause the only thing I had to practice at was the damned computer, and all it is is pattern fighting. My other favorite right now is Capcom vs. SNK. It's brilliant and requires a lot of skill to play, especially if you know jack about SNK fighters. It has a lot of boss animations though. A good majority of them are brand new seeing as how they redid the entire SNK cast Capcom Alpha style, and redid Ryu, Ken, Bison and Akuma as well. They added some minor animations to the rest of the Capcom stars, but not many that are extremely noticeable. I enjoy 2D hand drawn games a lot more than 3D games, too. There's still a lot you can't do in 3D that you can in 2D, I think.
Another game I love to play is Soul Calibur. The game mechanics and depth of this game have yet to be beaten, I think. At least for a fighter. It's also one of the easiest fighting games to play because the majority of the characters are masher friendly.
Then there's the 3rd person games (I think they're 3rd person, I could be wrong) that I like a lot, but are usually good only for a couple play throughs. The Resident Evil series, DinoCrisis, and Metal Gear Solid are all great fun. MGS having one of the best storylines, I think, in a game ever. It pulls you in, even pulls in people sitting around watching you play.
I'm not particularly a fan of the RPG genre. Some that I've played have really neat stories, and are depthy, and can be fun. But the idea of pointing and clicking, and occasionally developing a strategy, but more oft just powering your characters up so they're gods doesn't appeal to me. The one that I had the most fun playing though, would be Final Fantasy III. The Ninja owned.
Other games I wanna mention are the NES Ninja Gaiden games, the arcade Ninja Gaiden side-scroller, the first Final Fight, MegaMan II, Strikers II 1945, the Tekken series of games, the Darkstalkers series, Tecmo Bowl for the NES (you couldn't touch Walter Payton, literally) CastleVania II and IV and Super Metroid.
I'm sure there's bunch others that I enjoyed playing a lot. But those're the ones that I remember the most.
And Yoj? Anytime, sucka. WHO'S THE MASTA?! WHO'S THE BADDEST MOFO LOWDOWN AROUND THIS TOWN!? heh.
Kiss my converse, bitches.
