Stinky is referring to a character named Sewer Urchin from The Tick cartoon show. He was nicknamed Stinky for obvious reasons. That quote comes from an episode where he had an intelligent mustache stuck on his face, and as he was passed out, an insane guy wanted to blow him and the mustach up. So the Tick screamed, "You can't blow up Stinky! He's not even moving!"

For some reason it struck me as particularly funny. *shrug*

D-dubs: She's competing with all the other cartoonists from high school newspapers in the country that attend this convention- they have to listen to a group of speakers (as did I for writing the news article, and others do for writing the opinion piece). She then has to go illustrate a cartoon that (hopefully) makes a statement on whatever was spoken about.
