I plucked this thread off the VCL forum:

From: "jmhcustomart" <jmhcustomart@y...>
Date: Thu Apr 18, 2002 2:55 pm
Subject: !!!!URGENT!!!!

I'm writing this from Jim's account because it allows me to send the
letter as a Special Message.
Jim had to go to an eye doctor today. There's a possibility he may
lose his eyesight. Jeezus, I'm crying so hard I can barely read the
keyboard.
From what he told me, both of his eyes are bleeding internally. The
doctor said it was due to his diabetes. His left eye is worse,
because there's some swelling and the blood vessels are rerouting
themselves somehow (I'm not too clear on it).
I know Jim doesn't pray, and I haven't been to church in a long time,
but please, I beg you, if you can, please say a prayer for him. He's
too proud to ask for help, but he said he's probably gonna run
another auction thing this weekend to help pay for surgery (if it
will work in this case). He doesn't have insurance yet from his job,
but he hopes to get some of the money owed to him by Rabbit Valley.
Oh God, I don't know what to do. I've never seen him scared like
this. Fuck, I've never seen him CRY, even when a bunch of his
relatives died within a year or two of each other.
I think I'm more scared because he once told me his sole reason for
getting up every morning was looking forward to creating new art. He
said if he ever lost his eyes that he wouldn't have a reason to go
on. I dunno if he was joking or not, but I kinda doubt it. I don't
want anything to happen to him, but I don't know what to do!
I don't know what other groups he's on, but if any one of you would
be kind enough to maybe pass this information on, I would be forever
grateful. I'm sorry to have to post such a bad letter, but I thought
it was important that you all know. Please help.

Desiree Lee

I'm sorry to pimp this here, but I was hoping any of you might be willing to help in some way? I asked them to put up a Paypal account and they're working on it.

I heard about this last night from a friend. I'm hoping I can send some money to them today or in 2 weeks. Medical bills are such bitches, though they should be able to work it out. The Glacoma (sp) however will be very delicate to operate on. I do hope things work out in the end.
I remember now. I remember how it started.
I can't remember yesterday, I just remember doing... what they told me...

I hold belief in no god, but I pray to the fates and all that is good in this world that he makes a recovery. An artist losing his sight is truly a terrible thing. I've only seen a few small shreds of his work here and there, but I know he's a good'un and deserves all the help the community can offer.

I'd donate money myself - I'm almost broke, but I'd donate. Unfortunately Paypal doesn't accept my card. Any other takers, though? I figure every little bit counts here.

All I can do is to wish him that he gets better. I can't donate any money, because I don't have much of it myself. I can't pray for him, because I've promised myself that I'll never pray to any god. So with this, I wish him that his eyes will get better.

Jim Hardiman is one of the great artists in the fandom. Some examples of his work can be viewed here: http://www.skunked.com/

I put an auction up here, all proceeds to go the fund that'll help Mr. Hardiman pay for his surgery bills.

Go bid, because Mr. T says so!!
