Ah. Greetings. I'm Max Damage, yet another lurker who decided it would be more interesting to contribute than to just sit by and watch..
Anyhoo, the clock strikes 1am, and I stare at the front page of the site, and I ponder.
Does a strip like this, with its powerful yet dark story need to associate itself with such... 'snuff' as Rabid, or Mamabliss.com?
I do realise that our dear author has chosen to display praise from these sources, but really, am I the only one that thinks that the mere association with such material lowers the tone of the whole site?
The violence, the sex, the unutterable tortures of hell - all part of the rich tapestry that is Jack. Every image has a reason - its part in the story, a true meaning.. The image of hell portrayed here is enough to shock a lot of people into being just a little bit nicer, in case hell really IS like that...
So, why link to aformentioned sites? I don't mean to disturb the order of the community here by any means, but this question has been weighing on my mind, a little more heavily each time I visit the site.
*sigh* Heh.. Guess overstepping my bounds is my speciality. Anyhow, I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this.

I think that the question I have to ask, not having been to either of those sites, is 'why not?' Let's see if I can answer it myself...
*click click type type click click*
EEP! Alright, I think I think I understand what you're talking about now. Ecchi place, that Rabid comic. Ecchi na bakka!
...what's that, Max? Mamabliss is worse? THE HORROR! Thank God I've never been there.

Can't sleep Digimon will eat me.
You know there is worse out there. Come to think of it, there are far more scary treatises put up on the internet by people who are dead serious about the procedures for removing the soft skin from baby humans and making gloves from that to those who claim animal sacrifice is the way to appease the world-spirit. Stuff I find on the internet doesn't make me flinch any longer.
If Mr. Hopkins sees it fit to have such sites mentioned on his, more power to him. I'm not going to complain. Fact is I didn't even know about them so its no skin off my nose either way.

Heh - I've been on the net for what could be best described as 'far too long' - I seem to have managed to avoid being desensetized, though - it's hard to shock me, yes, but some things push the boundaries of taste.
I know there's worse out there.. I've seen some of it, but still, Rabid 'reads' like the inside of Drips head - it's the kind of stuff that goes on in Mr. Hopkins' depiction of hell to appease the Sins, but rather than being meant to repulse, it's clear that some people enjoy that stuff...
It kind of goes against the whole spirit of the story currently being told, don't you think?

Understand, Max,that you are coming from a specific morality base and social perspective.
What is on those is probably not considered bad or degrading by the owners and content creators of those sites, so who are we to judge them of their lives...especially if they want to give David free press*wink wink, nudge nudge*.
Live and let die, everyone has their shades of gray.
The furry community is one of the last places that should be seen drawing lines in the sand between personal tastes. Live your part of it, and let the rest be happy where they stand. Its what makes us great, and I guarantee you, anyone who is going ot develop a negative attitude of Jack will do it for the same reasons they will Mamabliss: They are looking for something to hate, and can't enjoy themselves.

Heheheh - yeah, I got this handle from the 'hero' of Carmageddon - ironically a game that I can't stand.. Not for reasons of taste, but for reasons of gameplay quality
Still - yes, some would consider that very tasteless. Personally, I found it funny - it's meant to be comedic in a cheesy sort of way, and is almost directly based on Deathrace 2000, that old movie.
Still - I was merely wondering why a comic (heh - doesn't quite sound right, does it.. How about graphic novel?) such as Jack, and its heavy moralistic themes would associate itself with aformentioned other comics which seem to bo directly against said morals.
Its the authors site - he does what he likes with it, and I'm most assuredly a regular reader now, but I'm just wondering if direct association with those would lower the overall tone of the site.

Contrast? Show of support? Sense of community? These are perfectly valid reasons.
I finally got around to checking out these 'horrible' websites and... they're so tame I don't even see what the big deal is. Just by this very post, more people have visited those pages to see what the fuss is about. Bad press makes for good business.
