To throw in my own couple of pence..
No, the victims do not have the oppritunity to redeem themselves, is that fair? Just as fair as someone who died in a car crash before they had a chance to repent.
The fact that someone took thier life willingly isn't really the point. the fact of the matter is all of us have a lifetime, no more, no less. You don't know when it's going to end in 40 years, 40 days, or 40 minutes from now. The important thing would be live your life in a way that you would be ready (in the sense you would have nothing to redeem yourself for) when you do die, no matter how you die.
I like this arc because it shows how a perfectly ordinary day can take a drastic and terrible turn, and it's an important thing to keep in mind, though I wouldn't dwell on it.
keep safe, live well, don't set off fireworks near gas cans.

Well, Terrycloth, I guess the point I'm trying to make is that most evil deeds other than murder don't keep their victims from redeeming themselves. Murder denies its victims that opportunity and thus deserves special treatment. Just my opinion -- and it's all academic to me anyway, as I don't believe in either Heaven or Hell. <IMG SRC="

>>According to Jack, this guy is going to have 40 years to repent in. If he does repent, then he's going to heaven. If any of the victims had something unrepented on the conscience then they aren't. That is way more F**ked up than anything humans could come up with.<<
Actually, the Catholic idea of Purgatory resolves the first part of this dilemma neatly. The big-time sinner repents at the last moment, so now he's saved, right?
Well, yes he is, but he's got all that lifetime of "unfinished business" that has to be taken care of before he can fully enter heaven. And that is Purgatory -- taking care of all that stain and scarring his soul built up during a life of self-destruction.
Also, Catholicism emphasizes the entire life of the individual in their personal "story of salvation", instead of the single "moment of decision" that Evangelical Protestants focus on.
(Last time I posted this explanation was on a Christian mailing list. Started an anti-Catholic flamewar.)

Hrr...Well, can't very well let a post like this run so long without commenting, can I?
...Unfortunately, about all I have is a response for LudiNem...Ludinermtaz...Leederhozen...LNT. ^_~ (sorry, couldn't resist)
Okay, so someone repents last-minute, so the go to Purgatory instead of Hell. Okay, good for them. But what of those who are /in/ Hell? Is not the point of Hell supposed to be something along the lines of 'the final, perfect Corrections Facility'? I mean, what's the point of a place being set up, run by someone who wrote the definition of Sadistic, and filled with a whole lotta shmucks, just so they can be tortured for eternity for things they did during what would literally equal the tiniest fraction of the passing of a fragment of the dropping of a miniscule part of a nanosecond of an eyeblink in the grand scheme of things? I mean /honestly/. The entire human race could exist for another thousand years, suddenly die off, and our long reign upon this rock would be of less relative time to the universe than it takes me to get seriously pissed at my sister*. So, why would all those poor shmucks be punished for /eternity/? Wouldn't it make a /lot/ more sense if there was a way for them to get out? I don't mean sneaking out, I mean doing it the way they're /supposed/ to, working out whatever inner demons they have, opening their eyes, and actually making themselves /realize/ that they were truly bad people (something a /lot/ harder to do than you'd think), then working their way to Purgatory?
Would someone please tell me, without spouting off about 'fairness' and 'equality' and 'the Bible says', why this isn't the way most seem to think? Oh, BTW, I don't mind if someone is willing to actually /read/ the Bible and find me concise, worthwhile evidence from it, rather than quoting verbatim the first bit of quote they find in there.
...Anyway, it's late, my mind's frazzed, and I should prolly shut up now before I'm lynched. ^_~ Anyone who wants to respond, send to
bloodmage@romeoprpductions.org; and I mean a /serious/ response, or I'll send a Greater Daemon to your house to teach your rear end new definitions of pain. ^_^
...Riiight...anyway....
