Integrals...

Hiya... got a question.

I need an integral, from a to b, where a and b are integers, that equals 191.

... I don't suppose any of you know of any?

A=1, B=2, and the integral is the integral from A to B of 191 times dx.

But if it's SUMNATION you're talking about...

Have you tried 95 and 96?

Hm, shoulda clarified... I wanted at least one x in the integral... I could have figured the plain ol' 191 meself...

the bounds don't have to be an integers, actually, so long as they're... rational? numbers, I think... no decimals. Fractions/roots are good, too.

If I may be so forward, what on earth do you want this for?

Seems like pretty oddball requirements, is all.

It's okay... I figured it out

Good ol' guess 'n' check.

(You got me going in the right direction, though... or rather, talking to you did. =3)

Heh heh.

See, if I'd known you'd accept irrational numbers (provided they have nice and tidy symbols), I'd have been able to give you, like, six possible answers.

I guess I fail at describing numbers. Yeah... rational wasn't the word I was looking for...

... there is water on mars.

I'm the kind of guy who would follow someone wearing that shirt around, until, irritated, they turned around and asked me "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" whereupon I would, in a small, timid voice, explain: "I'm trying to evaluate the integral on your shirt, but I suck at mental computation. I don't suppose you have a calculator on you?"

'Cause it's true. I would be able to figure out that the antiderivative came out to (7/2)x^2 + C but would choke on then computing 382*7/2.

I'd be thrilled if it made people follow me...

Gathering followers is the first step to world domination!

I'm going to risk loosing a few geeky points here, but... what's the connection to an integral that evaluates to 191, and the one you settled on? Were you just trying to get a template you could then adapt without spoiling the surprise? Or is there a numeric connection I'm not getting?

EDIT: Never mind, I just found the ratio.

Wow, my computers took a nosedive with ANOTHER dang electrical storm and when I get back something so geeky, so devious, yet plain as day is found. . .I just fell out of my chair laughing like a mad man. Thankyou, now I must go tease my collegues with this fun little tidbit.

Micro_fur - So it seems the 1337 have been sloth?

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but if it's the 1337 integral, thank you, have a catgirl...

Gengar the Neko-mancer!

Yes, the comment was in reference to the integral; when Nyamaza asked about 191 all that came to mind was 7, that reminded me of the movie SE7EN, and based on the coment you had for the shirt, that lead me to think that those who don't understand it were too sloth to get a higher undertanding of mathematics to learn calculus but yet understand 1337.
If this is confusing, try being the one who thinks in spherical form rather than linear, then again there are two types of people who do this naturaly (in order of highest incidence): all women and men where the nerves connecting the two hemispheres of the brain is not degraded as it is is most men (i.e. Einstein). [That is to say those who were not testosterone poisoned BEFORE birth, the chemical wholy responsible for the degredation of the bridge]

Micro_fur - Mathematics to pop culture to psychology to physiology all in one neat package. Thankyou to our UK friends for the creation of the 'Connections' series that once aired on TLC here stateside!

I don't think in "forms..." I just think....

I think.

I hate to break it to you but it's not the hormones causing your brain to degrade, it's the porn! So stop looking at the minotaur beefcake, already!
