The nice thing about armadas...

Post by Alfador »

You don't have to design a hundred ships. Just half a dozen or so.

The trouble is, if you want it to look this good, you still have to draw as many ships as you want to show.

But tricks like showing only the leading edge of the armada on-panel help with that, too. =^.^=

Reminds me of the scene from the (first) Hitchhiker's movie, where they do the "It's a nice day," "You're very tall," "So this is it...we're going to die." scene. ;)

I see woodplanes, vacuum cleaners and rasp blocks. Have you been woodworking Allan?

I designed the armada with the intent of showing a blocky, ugly fleet of ships designed for economy and firepower. The Nation is an expansionist power, so its war machines are not graceful low-casualty systems such as the current US military employs but rather high-casualty bulk-production ones. With no air friction, any sleekness of design is purely for show. (With the advent of gravity modulation, surface-to-orbit transport no longer requires aerodynamic design either, although in this case the point is moot since these vessels were built in space.)

(Incidentially, gravity modulation is a lot more difficult in the Unit Zero universe than in Umlaut House; it wasn't discovered until around 2140.)

I bet they haven't gotten it down to a sleek underwear design yet either.

And their female officers don't wear miniskirts, either! I mean, how backwards can you get?
