Don't mind me; I'm just being silly with "Lady Mad Death."
What can I say? Maximus inspired me.

I'd just like to go on the record by saying most of y'all or wussies. Allan offered up a fun little thing to build some community enthusiasm and only five people showed up. There were excuses instead of any endeavor of any kind by several forumites, mostly of the "I can't think of anything" or "this would just suck" kind. RUBBISH!

Maximus Coolman modified one pic so that Arnold looked like he spotted some shiny tin-foil and it provoked a reaction from many people (myself included). Was there any great insight on Maximus' part? Was there cognition of making great art? Highly doubtful there was anything of the sort. Alfador snagged a pop-culture shtick and gave it a Unit Zero twist. When I found I could come up with no new material I chose to reach outside the box. Detail Bear... okay, well, bad example because he's always in his element with these things.

My point is, you're not making the Mona Lisa or crafting "the Great American Novel." All that was put forward was something to help bind us together a bit more. :(

My excuse: I'm not an artist. Or anything creative for that matter. I'm a conscientious observer and appreciater of those whose motor skills and creative spark and dramatic flair exceeds my own.

So, while I'll gladly give constructive criticism where asked, I'll rarely volunteer my own creative ideas.

I'm not saying the task is hard or undoable. I'm sure that if I really sat down and tried, I'd be able to at least come up with a one liner caption or something for Allan's comics. But, the time and effort that I put into that would yield something that wouldn't even amuse myself, much less someone else. And, quite frankly, I don't have that kind of time to spend on such a low yield project.

A more tangible reason: My computer's allergic to photo shop.
All fear the RP character from the completely private RP ^_^.

Andrick wrote:(stuff)
You know, that has to be one of the more insulting things I've read. "You're just not trying hard enough." What the fuck?

I wish I could do something. All my life I've wanted to be able to do something creative. It just hasn't happened.

Nothing. I have never done anything creative, artistic, or in any other way creating anything. Zero. Zilch. Nada. No matter how many hours, days, years I spend trying, nothing.

I have always wanted to do something creative. ANYTHING. It doesn't matter what I try to do, I fail. I try drawing, I can't think of anything. I try writing, I can't think of anything. Absolutely no musical talent either. I have tried virtually every form of art, and haven't been able to think of anything. Two years of ceramics, and didn't create anything. (create, as in, something creative, not the physical process of shaping clay). Art classes, flunked out. Took music classes... flunked out. Everything creative I try I fail. Doesn't matter what it is, I can not create anything.

I've invested a fair portion of my income trying every form of creative expression I've seen... pencils, paints, clay, graphics tablets, scrap metal, you name it... nothing.

I would give just about anything to be able to be creative... I've never done a single creative thing my entire life... no matter how hard I try...

And you sit there and tell me I'm not trying hard enough.

Perhaps for you it comes easily. Not everyone is you.

1. I've called in the moderator.

2. I hope that everyone can calm down, or at least hold off on any more explosions.

3. Andrick, you're way out of line. You're entitled to your opinion. You're also entitled to air it. However, this is also a community, and you've violated some of the basic rules of community. I'm insulted. I would appear that others are, too.

When you belittle others I feel my safe space is attacked. Your complaint about a lack of building community has turned into an attack on the community, which will more likely tear it apart than build it up. I do not want to see that kind of activity in this forum and I would ask that you refrain from such inflammatory rhetoric in the future. I also feel that you owe the other forumites an apology. I would hope that you would offer it soon.

Uhm.

DB, Andrick did get a bit, ah, loud there, but, hey, let's all give each other a break, eh?

For the reccord, that sentence had SEVEN commas in it.

None of this really qualifies as being mean or spiteful, if you ask me, but it does highlight something:

People need to respect each other's ability, or lack thereof.

Five people made submissions. By my count, there's fewer than fifteen people who even post here. 30% participation is actually pretty good, if you ask me. I think this thing has been pretty sucessful, if dominated by a few more prolific artists.

This is basically an unmoderated forum, in the end, and it's up to the users themselves to create (and use) the community. I don't use my moderation powers in part because I don't have to, and in part because everyone here is basically trying to create a positive experience for everyone else. I think if we remember that, there's really no problem we can't collectively overcome. It's not like any of us is actively trying to make things less fun around here.
