We finally got a release date for the extended edition of the third LOTR movie by Peter Jackson and crew. December 14th, who hoo!
The one thing I kinda wonder about these extended editions... why did Viggo Motinsen decide not to do any of the cast commentaries? I would have loved to have heard him in one of them.
Anyhew... WHOOOOOO. Excitement!

Because it's only the regular extended extended edition. They have to leave something out so that you'll feel compelled to buy the Super Extended Platinum Ultra Bonus Edition even if you already have this one.
Diabolical, I know. u.u

Funny how you should mention that, as another comic I read did something on that about the original LOTR movies (PVP:
http://pvponline.com/).
I personally am not a big fan of LotR, but I know Cyril is.

I am kind of wondering if/when they'll sell the theatrical/extended versions of all three films together in one mega-collection. and what i love is in the directors commentary, even Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens actually joke about that, the 50th aniversary super extended cut edition.
And on a half-side note, I honestly have no sympathy for those that bought Two Towers or ROTK theatrical versions, and then were appalled at buying again the extended cuts. I'll admit, there may have been SOME people out there unaware the first time that an extended cut was coming out, but I know a few (stupid) people that complain each time, and yet still buy the theatrical version each time. (on the other side of this note, I intentionally bought both versions of each movie)

Heck, if you used to read Ask Evil Princess Sarah on 8 bit, (
http://www.nuklearpower.com, ask EPS on the sidebar), They had a letter about someone complaining that they didn't have both the Widescreen and Fullscreen versions of Fellowship when it came out on DVD.. to which she responded "Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the amazing Perma-Virgin" or something.. anyways, I've seen people bitch that George Lucas remastered and redid the original Star Wars trilogy, saying that it's "impure" or something, despite the fact that the newer ones were CLOSER to what George Lucas wanted in the first place, and the old ones were not this due to budget and time constraints.. So people bitching about rereleases just kinda annoys me. Get informed, get the one you want, and if you bought one and don't want to buy two, don't buy the other and rent it or something. Jeez.
Joke!

I personally joke on the re releases and new editions of movies, but some things were edited because of bad reasons (Indy's gun being removed with a walkie talkie, the word 'terrorist' being removed with 'hippy' ect.) But, again, I want to remind people that just because I or someone jokes about something doesn't mean they don't like it.
