Squick: verb. To cause significant psychological upheval due to a rapid acquisition of information concerning a topic normally outside one's sphere of experience.

For example, whenever Saundra emits her trademark "EEeeewwww..", she may be considered squicked.

Squickage is the noun form of squick.

I have been known to use "squink" as this is a fair onomonopia for the sound of a squeaky door, about the same sound one imagine's one's brain making under such circumstances.
That one is worded better than my old definition. Shame it got eatten in the last forum crash.

I'm going to get a reputation if this keeps up.

The ambient niceness of this forum never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy. ^^

Allan, I definitely support your decision to relabel the thread. Actually, I thought it was funny. :D Heck, I don't even think it counts as "putting your foot down"... More like just being polite.

And all this time I assumed the noun form was "squickery." Huh. Well, maybe "squickage" can be the state or condition of being squicked, whereas "squickery" can be the act or art of squicking. I think it's a distinction that needs to be made. :P

I guess I was merely contrasting myself against forum moderators who are more liberal in their use of the moderator powers. I must admit I've been the partial cause of a killed thread or two in my day...

(Anyone who remembers the Suburban Jungle Outtake fiasco of ought-twain will know what I'm talking about...)

Why, one of Umlaut House's modal themes, of course!

Squick: verb. To cause significant psychological upheval due to a rapid acquisition of information concerning a topic normally outside one's sphere of experience.

Squickage is the noun form of squick.

I know this has been said...

I know this has been said before, but, it's not really censorship to rename or relocate a forum thread. I mean, if it's not labeled correctly then it's not labeled correctly. What would have been offensive would be to delete the thread or censor the words in it. And I've looked at the thread, it's a very frank and honest discussion, handled maturely.
I don't like signatures, so I'm not making one.

It is definitely not censorship to retitle a post.

However, I was concerned that it could be interpreted as cenSURing: making a negative value judgement about what was said.

But again, thanks all for being so civilized as to recognize my playful (but seriously intended) alteration to the topic title in question as well-meant, even before I clarified myself.
