This one is a kind of collage of different art Gloria's done, ungreatfully mashed together by yours truly.

I was listening to "Crucify my Love" by X-Japan while reading through the current (well, pre-Peanuts-esque) storyline, and was inspired by this song...to me it kind of embodies what Keer must have been feeling (before Twap came out after him).

I tried to stick to just art that appeared in the strip, but I couldn't resist using the yerf picture (you'll see what I mean).

Here's the link, before I go on: <a href="http://winds.org/~macro/keer-crucify_my ... g">Crucify my Love</a>

Two things I changed:
1) I did some editing and glued the two panels from Xe's flashback together. This required blacking over the narrative box, and extending Keer's speech bubble.

2) I removed Xe's speech bubble in the strip. (Keer's not having luck when getting kissed, is he?)

And, an error I spotted just now... I've got the lyrics wrong. The line should read "tried to learn, tried to find" ... I've got it as "try to love, try to find" ... c'mon, I'm going by ear from a Japanese guy singing in English... it can't be perfect.. (and I'll be fixing this tonight).

Just for reference, the lyrics go like this:

Crucify my love if my love is blind
Crucify my love if it sets me free
Never know Never trust " That love should see a color "
Crucify my love if it should be that way

Swing the heartache, feel it inside out
When the wind cries, I'll say good-bye
Tried to learn tried to find, to reach out for eternity
Where's the answer, is this forever?

(Complete lyrics in a slightly different format are at <a href="http://www.animelyrics.com/jpop/xjapan/ ... ove.htm</A>.)

... ... ... man, I talk a lot...

(edit: fixed a few spelling mistakes in the lyrics...the linked page has lots)

*blushes*

Wow. That went over really well. Wow.

*blushes a deeper shade of red*

Incidentally, I've uploaded the fixed version. The lyrics are now corrected.

Simplicity wants another, huh? Hmm... well, all day Twap's been running through my head, singing the chorus of "Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart" by Stone Temple Pilots ("I am I am I said I'm not myself, I'm not dead and I'm not for sale, so hold me closer, closer, let me go, let me be, just let me be.") so... we'll see what happens.

*blushes an elegant shade of paisley*

That's impressive, Mr Elix!

And I encourage you to realize the other idea in your head, this one is great already.
I think I'll have to look out for the song you used on mp3 somewhere or so...

Here's my second idea. <A href="http://winds.org/~macro/twap_trippin.jpg">Tripping on a Hole in a Paper Heart</A>

I might remove the "dream sequence" pictures from the top...they're kind of cluttering it all up.

Um. Yeah. I'll have an MP3 link up later today (for just a few days), and I'll try and find a link for "Crucify my Love," since it's a lot harder to find without a file-sharing program.

And now I'm out of ideas. But I want to do something with Xe or Misha next. It'll come, eventually.

Elix,
Those are both amazing! I concur with Simplicity:

You rock hard!

In Tripping On A Hole, I think the dream sequence frames fit perfectly with the lyrics, especially the last frame-it's kind of chilling.

Awesome, Elix.

You got a good feeling of how to combine what pictures with what text imho Elix. Yup.
I'm curious, how long did it take you to raid through the archives and yerf to find everything you needed?
And how you judged if you could use it or not?

Guys, I'm running out of colours to blush in. Seriously.

Don't forget, I think a large part of the credit goes to Gloria. Don't forget that she drew these pictures and created these characters to begin with. All I've done is shaped song lyrics and Gloria's characters, and the attached emotions, and blended them together in a way that's got emotional meaning to me.

Actually, to make it easier on me, I usually scavenge through the archives of comics I really like and download 'em, en masse, to my own computer. So if I'm looking for a specific day's comic, it's FAR easier to find, and much faster (my trusty dial-up connection can't keep up with me when I'm tearing through the archives of a webcomic, trying to find a specific strip). For Yerf images, and this is mainly in the case of Gloria's art, I also downloaded lots of it...though in this case mostly pictures I like, as opposed to making sure I've got all the strips from, say, February.

As for how I judged what to use... I had a theme in mind... sometimes I had specific pictures in mind, and built it around them. Sometimes I went searching for the right image. Sometimes I grabbed images, and then discovered they didn't fit.

For example, in the Keer desktop, I intended from the beginning to have the two strips of when Keer gets kissed (by Xe and Twap, respectively), and I also wanted the image of Twap hugging Keer. As I began to build the image, it struck me that I should try to illustrate the triangle...so I put in panels of Twap and Keer fighting, Keer rescuing Xe, Xe looking down... (anyone notice that you can see Twap's tail behind Xe's head? That was quite intentional. )

I had more than what actually made it... but I avoided using the rest 'cause it would have made it too cluttered.

And I got another image...I'm not as happy with this one. Then again, it took me about fourty-five minutes.

<a href="http://winds.org/~macro/everybody.jpg">Untitled! cast - Everybody Hurts</A>

(Before you even say, YES, I know, some of the images don't really work with the theme. I'm completely conscious of that. But I wanted to add in characters other than Keer, Twap, and Xe. Plus, the "WHAM! WHAM!" somehow fit for me...out of context you could see it as Twap working out some anger.)

I wanna do something more happy next. Maybe a Xe-themed one.

Okay, I have tears in my eyes now. Just the combination of images and the song is perfect. I wish I was as talented as both you and Gloria! I am surrounded by talented people and it is a gooood thing!

Don't be too modest now. Just as DJs have become artists in their own right through the creative use and blending of pre-existing media, you show excellent compositional skills and a very good ear for matching lyrics to the moods of Gloria's art. (Or the other way around; it can go both ways) I mean, you're doing more than cut-and-paste work; it's plain that you've put quite a bit of time into selecting colors, transparency levels, size and placement, and a certain flow to the words and images.
And I got another image...I'm not as happy with this one. Then again, it took me about fourty-five minutes.
Are you not pleased with the images themselves, or is it something else? I think the lyrics are great,(I love REM), but looking back at Crucify My Love and Tripping on a Hole, what really caught my eye was how you created space by putting text and frames from the strip around faded, unframed images. In Everybody Hurts, there was less of this space and less flow from one element to the next. I still like it, though.

And I'm looking forward to seeing it. Nice work, Elix!

Read up in the thread. I blushed paisley before I went plaid. I think I'll start using floral prints now.

Oh, but I am.

Well, that's exactly it. I am putting thought and time into arranging the piece. But, that being said, I didn't create the individual images, nor the song. I guess this is an example where the sum of parts adds up to a greater whole.

Well, I almost rushed through "Everybody Hurts" without an incredible amount of inspiration. I was actually listening to "November Rain" by Guns 'n Roses more than I was listening to REM (I listen to the song I'm using when I do the wallpaper -- I listened to "Trippin'" about fourty times...just for the chorus). Some of the images were almost contrived... (I only included the "WHAM! WHAM!" tent-peg panels 'cause out of context it looked like Twap was really ticked...and I thought it was funny.) I also only had one image in mind when I began, and that's the central picture of Twap and Xe embracing. I know I can do a better job than I did.
And I'm looking forward to seeing it. Nice work, Elix!
And, actually, for Xe's, I'm thinking of using "So Dream" by Common Children. (Yes, Gloria's inadvertently got me listening to Common Children, buwaha. I think I like "Skywire" more, though.) It just somehow fits for Xe. he's a dreamer... I've got a good amount of material to work with (Xe's dream sequences, the between-worlds storyline)... and my favorite Untitled! character is Xe.

Just remember, Gloria drew it. I ungratefully stole her fire by doing some tinkering in Photoshop and posting the results in her forum.

In addition to slowly recovering from feeling really really bad about that, I also feel quite dense. 'Bout the density of mercury. Yeah. *lifts a bottle of mercury* *puts it down* (THUD).

But, if that's cool, yay. Great. *face starts looking not-pale again*

Next up on my agenda...well, I don't have any more wallpaper ideas for now (here's your chance, Devon! Wanna make this a competition? ), so I'm gonna try other things... like, schoolwork... (what a concept)... and I wanna learn how to play a musical instrument, dangit. I guess I could borrow my mom's flute and annoy the crap out of everyone in the dorm...

Or maybe I should just go and continue practicing my (rudimentary) drawing skills. At the moment, I'm good at certain things, but on the whole I'd be famous in my tribe for wall paintings in the cave, but not much more. (Wall paintings with sketchy anime hair, yet.)

*tummy rumbles* And I'm hungry. Maybe I should eat. Hey, now there's a concept.
