I'd just like to let you guys know that I've finished the latest Redwall novel, _Lord Brocktree_. I bought it months ago (along with the Screwtape Letters) but it took me a while to get past the first forty or so pages. I began reading it in earnest a couple days ago when without warning the story suddenly became interesting. It was like what happened when I reached page 137 in _Legend of Luke_ except that it hit much earlier and stayed for the rest of the book. The story and its subplots were engaging. I found myself actually caring about what happened to the characters, who were all distinctive and interesting, even the vermin and those that irritated me. Basically, it was a pretty good book all around. Easily on par with _Pearls of Lutra_.

I also just finished William Gibson's _Virtual Light_ today. Weird, but in a good way.

Yes, _Taggerung_ is technically the most recent Redwall book. But it doesn't count because I haven't read it yet.

I just finished reading _Grunts_, by Mary Gentle. This was certainly an interesting book. It is about cliiched high fantasy orcs who get their claws on modern military equipment. The plot is horrifically convoluted, seeming to move totally at random towards no clear outcome. The entire point of the book seems to be to make fun of fantasy novels in the most violent and disgusting way possible. I still say it is pretty good, but only because I liked the jokes.
On the other hand, David Freer and Eric Flint did a much better job with _Rats Bats and Vats_. Their book is themed more along military/dirty jokes. The plot is alien invasion, not fantasy parody, but the put it together well. In my opinion, it is superior to _Grunts_.<p>[This message has been edited by Hraxmeim (edited 01-04-2002).]

By the way, I finished reading Vernor Vinge's _A Deepness in the Sky_ a while back. Great book!

I got in December...December 11th I think. All I know is that I finished it the same day.

well, I love the redwall books. My sister (9 years old) brought home Mossflower and hated it so I picked it up and read it. I ended up being obsessed with the whole series and waiting for each book to be availible in the library. Now I've finished all 13 or so books in less than a month. My fave one was Lord Brocktre, although I have to admit redwall was extremely good. Any other opinions? And yes, Dotti was my fave too. GIRL POWER!! what happened to the female heroes?

Yep. That's the one. I love that story. One of my favorite books. Can't wait for the new ones to come out. I'm craving for a Jacque book I haven't read. *is rereading Redwall* I'm getting bored....agh.<P>------------------
