Anyone familiar with "sleep paralysis"? It's a rather terrifying occurance that I've experienced a couple of times. Those who know what I'm talking about can understand.
I'll have dreams that people I care about have died or something terrible has happenend, and I'll start crying, and wake myself up and then feel really stupid (though relieved) that I was crying over something that hadn't actually occured.
From a very early age I'd trained myself to shake my head vigorously whenever I started having a bad dream, and thus I'd shake my head IRL and hit it on the bed frame, thus waking myself from the nightmare.
I'll have nightmares I'm being attacked, and in my mind, I'll hit the ~ key and type in "god" and "noclip" and then whatever it is can't get me.
I'll have dreams I'm in a fire fight with somebody, and I'll be able to get a clear shot at them, but when I fire my gun, either the barrel bends to the left or the right like it were made of soft rubber, or my bullets will just kind of "plunk" out of the front of my pistol and land on the ground a few feet away.
Yes... ok, any psycologists want to analyze me now?
Heh... reminds me of a joke I made up.
What do you call a psycologist's lingerie?

A Freudian Slip.

I don't know if anyone has posted anything about dreams, so here we go.
Do you get bad dreams? What are they about? I don't get bad dreams at all, and when I do have dreams I hardly remember what mine are about. On Halloween night of all nights I had a nightmare about my dog that I've had for 13 years was run over by a van right in front of me. It was so real, and I remember in detail how he was hit and what he looked like after the accident. Then I had a ton of other little mishaps in the same dream involving people stealing my car and running after me with guns. Holy Crow, what a night. I watched The Green Mile (great movie btw) before I went to bed, maybe that stirred it on.
Did you ever have dreams about flying when you were little? I had a ton of those.

that reminds me of a dream I had once. It wasn't a nightmare, but it was kinda weird.
I was being attacked by tan letter 'o's. They were trying to kill me, so I typed 'pcb' and pointed at them. A whole bunch of them disappeared, and I kept doing that until they were all dead. This is what happens when you play too many computer games.
A recent nightmare I had started out with me walking around in the snow. I was in my old back yard in Minnesota. I cam to one spot and started digging in the snow. I found a bit of money, but also a green notebook. I opened it and the first page told me "You know you can't get away." I wasn't reading the book, it actually spoke it into my mind. I fell face first into the snow and that's when I woke up.

I have two things in my sleep that are appearing every now and then that are like a nightmare.
One thing is, when I dream of not being able to breath. It can have different resons in my dreams, for example being underwater, or by suffocating on something (like a pillow on my face or so). The only problem is, that I seem to hold my breath that time in real life. Normally my subconscious somehow drags me awake slowly then, I can literally feel how I notice I wake up, and then start gasping for air when I notice I've been dreaming.
The other thing is a weird always re-appearing dream how the big toe on my left food is torn in the middle, like you would tore a sheet of paper. It's not hurting or so, I'm just always panicking in the dream then, desperatly trying to fix it with glue and duct tape. Has never worked tho.
I'm always wondering if there's some deeper meaning hidden in there, but haven't seen a good book an dream-interprations yet.

Nightmares? Oh, lets see here, not many as of late.
I do have an accquaintance IRL who's a bit like the Herlihey boy off of the Adam Sandler/Chris Farley SNL skit, but more millitant. He's extremely annoying and no one can stand him, but he tries so hard to be nice that you can't be mad at him. Lately he's been putting his face directly into my dreams blocking everything else out. Its like he's over taking _Everything!_.
I've had the 'Hey... oh Gods I'm complete trailer trash!' type dream. (Note: There are people who live in trailers, then there's trailer trash. BIG difference.)
I take pity on a ghost, who could stop haunting, if I can only find the ring that she tossed away into the New York City landfill, in 1926. So I'm out there digging through all this crap with this dead person
bugging the hell out of me.
Our president decides to reveal he's worse than Hitler, puts us under a millitary-police state, rescinds the constitution and the bill of rights, and makes me the poster child for everything that we should hate.
These happened while awake, but did produce nightmares afterwards:
A group of friends and I were attacked by something/s on a bridge once.
No one would use the bathroom at Dianae's old house. They'd always go down 5 blocks to the convenience store. The room seriously creeped everyone out. You look in the mirror, the bathroom door is open, look behind you it's closed (or visa versa)!
Some people say they can see a tall, blonde well built man with black pits for eyes in the room with them others just see an unusual amount of blackness. Two people, Matt and Jesse, have been picked up and tossed violently.
She warned people to use the bathroom with caution if they wanted to, but adamantly refused access to the master bedroom. That was tightly locked up.
To this day I still can't just walk casually into any bathroom.
Woke up one morning to find a large hole in the side of the house we used to live in and construction men.(It was split 4 way into different apartments) The landlord neglected to tell us this was going to be happening, or why. Seems that our foundation had been completely rotted away and our house was sitting there by the grace of (insert deity here).
I had nightmares that I lived in a house made of balsa wood and parchment paper after that.

I used to have dreams when I knew I was dreaming too. I used to shut my eyes real tight, then open them and I'd wake up. Ever worry about something and dream about different outcomes? I had a big fight with a longtime friend from highschool and we haven't spoken to each other since. I'm glad I broke off the friendship about her nature and making some of my friends upset for no reason. But I still have dreams that I'm still friends with her, and what her reaction would be if I saw her again and started talking with her. Subconscious stuff I guess....
Aren't there books about different things you dream about? Like if there's an animal always in your dreams, or dying and things like that. I once kept having dreams of babies all week, and my brother called my mom at the end of the week to say that him and his fiance are going to have a baby. Very strange.

There are dream interperation books but I have found them to be useless...
My nightmares, I enjoy. I have had the typical "Me against a conspiracy" dream. I've had dreams where I've died, (One dream I died and then credits started rolling, I still chuckle over that one)
A common dream is an adventure style. I would do a series of actions that would end with everyone happy, the dream would start over and those same actions would result in horrible failure.
When I first fall asleep I sometimes dream that I am slipping down a hill, I am not in true REM so when I try to stop myself I usually kick out and hurt myself .
The worst dream I ever had everyone was friendly and pleasant and they all were greeting me by name. Everyone was in the best mood ever... I woke up in a cold sweat.
I usually dream in color and I also have experienced the "reading a book but I just know what it says" and my favorite type of dream is the one that Hraxmeim described, the conspiracy one.
sorry that I am not bothering to organize my thoughts I just woke up.

I don't have nightmares very often... I have dreams where disturbing or maybe even scary things happen, but, you see, I have to ability to a) usually be at least vaguely aware when I'm dreaming and b) to control my dreams, so I guess stuff doesn't bother me because I know that it's not going to get out of hand.
I used to have recurring nightmares when I was little, usually about dinosaurs or this one evil airplane kiddie ride at the fair...
Does anybody else here tend to be morally conscious of stuff while their dreaming? For example, I'll occasionally have dreams where Alex or somebody is trying to kiss me or something and I will desperately try to get rid of them from my dream because I refuse to kiss anyone besides Devon, even in my dreams. I often pray in my dreams, same as I would when I'm awake. And if I find my dreams becoming evil or violent or whatever, I'll usually realize it and think, "no, this isn't right. I shouldn't be letting my mind dwell on stuff like this." And so I'll change it.
I dunno, maybe that's why I don't have nightmares... Heh. I'm weird, yes.

For example, I dreamed of hiding from someone, and I had found a the perfect hiding place by simply standing still and holding a little flower-pot in my hands, and noone found me.
Then suddenly my brain kicked in and I said myself "what a stupid dream, you can't hide by holding a little flower-pot!". And this moment the searching folks spotted me.
That seems to happen quite often to me, every time my dreams get too weird, I notify myself of the obviously impossible things.
That can really spoil the fun sometimes.
