I agree with you appollo, although im not in the US. It seems like an attack of the same damage on the people who did this will only make it worse and as the old saying goes two wrongs dont make a right does it?
Some sort of justice but not more killing enough people have already died and even if they did this theres no need for more bloodshed and WW3 sounds too scary to comprehend
That was a well thought out point appolo
------------------

The question of what we should do is a complicated one, that will take time for me to explain. This attack is one of simplicity and fanatism. The terrorists died to put fear into a nation. This is a problem that other countries have had (Isreal) and they have found ways to deal with it. England had a rash of IRA bombings, they did the best they could with police actions (I do admit some ignorance here I know no details other than vague police and quasi-military actions.) Others such as Isreal have taken an agressive and decisive policy that is geared to bring terror to the terrorists. My opinion is that I am very glad I do not have to make this decision. There are plenty of other ways to deal with such terror tactics as we have experienced today but some would restrict our liberties. Proabibly most will restrict our civil liberties. The question you are asking is not of what do we do, but how far should we go. Extracting justice and vengence are very close to the same thing, and by the same question, are you asking we keep a running total of how many people *we* kill to give justice? Should we keep careful accounting of how much material damage we bring to the perpitrators of this terrible tragedy? In fact, the two options you are giving are in many ways the same thing. It is impossible for us to not give justice without also giving revenge.
Will you ask the individual soldier who is asked to give justice upon the terrorists that have commited these acts to put aside personal feelings? The two will come together and leave us no more satisfied that anything has been accomplished (or maybe we will feel that justice has been done, but I doubt it.)
And on the topic of two wrongs, ask the Japanese who in August 6, 1945 how they feel about two wrongs (ok I'm quoting a movie but it is still true.) Force, unfortunatly has been the deciding factor in much of history.
As for WW3, as long as we don't all want to die that should not happen... There are scary people on the US side who feel we should nuke whoever did this consequences be damned.

How do you feel we should answer the attack on ny and dc?
I think we should seek justice, not revenge. If we seek out the people who commited these acts with hate and revenge in our hearts then we become everything we have always fought against.
------------------
