Here's what Boxing Day was all about:

I can't speak for the USAlians, but the commercialism gets really hyped up about it and stores open 2-3h earlier to allow "boxing day" sales of 50-75% off normal items.

No, no Boxing Day for us... at least, not for those who live far south of the Canadian border... (though given the current exchange rate, every day seems like Boxing Day up there for us! :D)

But then again, you Britons don't have Thanksgiving, or the 4th... oh, wait, you've got that Hawkins day, the one where someone tried to blow up Parliament, right? Anyway... yeah. :)

It's Guy Fawkes day.

But yeah... I actually was of the impression that the US and the UK have far fewer holidays than a lot of other western European countries... or am I totally out of my mind?

Technically speaking, the de-decking of halls isn't supposed to take place until at least 13th-day (January 6th, the day of St. Stephen), and in some parts of Norway they keep it going until 20th-day (January 13th, the day of St. Knut).

In Norway we have quite a few holidays, both religious and secular - there is Christmas day, 2nd Day, New Year's Day, Pentecoast, the Thursday before Easter whose English name I can't recall, Good Friday, Easter and 2nd Day Easter (the Monday after Easter), a day we call Kristi Himmelfart (which means the day when Christ went up to Heaven), May-day (May 1st - International Labour Day), Constitution Day (May 17th).
Best regards

ooh?x-x bad Monny and Monny's family then...we always take our decorations(sans outdoor lighting) before New Year's Eve..usually...I don't remember any New Year's with a tree or a Victorian house-shaped candle holder..
I've never really payed attention to the amount of holidays in the US...they just come and go...I've nearly slept through all of them

Umm. Yes... Whoops?

Seems I got the names of days mixed up, for no good reason too.It was supposed to say Three Kings' day, not St. Stephen.
