Rant of the Week.
Rant of the Week.
Well, today I discovered that my brand new Mp3/Cd player was BROKEN.
By BROKEN I mean that I couldn't plug in the power adapter to the back of the player. It appeared that the part you plug it into was bent or shoved up inside or something. So I go off in search of a tiny screwdriver... no luck.
But then I had the brilliant Idea of going down to the Electronics department, and seeing if they could help.
Well, the guy looked at it, and we discovered that the plastic component which holds the adapter port was broken. So he gave me a hot glue gun and said to fix it at home and then bring the stuff back later.
So I went back and fiddled with it... no idea yet whether it works or not, or if I made matters worse... but the guy seemed confident that hot glue would fix it, so... *bites nails*
Woof.
Anyway, during this ordeal, I kept thinking about how much I HATE living with only girls, because guys are more apt at things that involve fixing electronic devices... well, the geeky guys, anyway. And then I was getting annoyed because nobody seems to appreciate guys anymore. We've all been so jaded by the media stereotypes and the feminist propagandists that we tend to put men down in a broad generalization that they're all stupid and insensitive.
Well, some of them are. Many of them are in fact, but I believe that's probably because they don't realize that they don't HAVE to be.
On the other hand, I know LOTS of guys who are VERY intellectual, very sensitive, and very respectful of others, especially girls. Not because they think they'll win points with the ladies, but rather because that's who they are. I mean, guys are guys. They're horny and competetive and insecure and most of them tend to try and hide the fact that they're terribly intimidated by the mysterious ways of women (hey, so am *I*). But... they're not so bad. I personally couldn't stand living without guys. I depend on them for... well, almost everything. I mean, without guys, who would troubleshoot my computer? Who would do all the heavy lifting? Who would I have to protect me from danger? Who would I have to fall in love with and be adored by?
This is turning into an "I love Devon" post. But, it's not just Devon. He's MY guy. But I hold almost as much respect for my other guys friends, like Joey, Crash, Tobi, Eric, Elix, etc...
Um... yeah, anyway. I'm getting all gooshy so I'll just stop.

It's funny you say you can't stand girls, because I prefer the company of girls for the exact reasons you were saying guys don't have to be like they are. I mean, I just hate having to keep up a whole macho thing, and if you act wierd, then suddenly everyone looks at you funny. If you act childish or "gay" girls don't care. I can be goofy. No worries about testosterone.
Besides, if I need a testosterone release, skateboarding is a wonderful thing, no?
But *hugs* thanks so much Glor, you made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Heh, but look at it from the point of view of a girl who doesn't exhibit the sterotypical "female" behaviour.W.M.Y.L.G. There are some very nice, wonderful girls that I get along with just fine (in most cases) and that I love to death. Stephanie, for instance. But (no offense to her) Even though I UNDERSTAND much of her behaviour, sometimes some of her girlish quirks get on my nerves. As I know mine do on other people's. I don't know WHY girls annoy me so much. Maybe it's because I don't have a lot in common with most of them, in the terms of everyday, non-vitally important stuff, like music. And the ones I DO have things in common with on that level, I DON'T have much in common with on a deeper, emotional/spiritual level.
(ie. Why the heck are all the other punk girls stupid elitist liberal feminist morons who think they're better than everybody?!?!?! And yes, I am aware that that was a generalization.)
Anywhoo... I dunno whether I'll ever get over this separation I have from other girls. I really am MUCH more comfortable among guys than girls... anywhoo.

Actually, I almost got beat out in an arm wrestling match by this girl who wasn't even 100 lbs...
Besides, the fact that I skate merely means I can tolerate a bit o' pain.
(which is funny, because I still can't stand needles...

Oooh boy.
I REALLY wish I could join in on this praise for boydom thread but.. I just don't GET boys. Don't get me wrong, I am staunchly heterosexual and I have a couple of guy friends but.. I just enjoy the company of girls so much more in RL interactions. We just understand each other so much better.
And, at the risk of sounding like the LiberalFeministSomethingOrOtherGeneralizedThingy that Gloria described, I can't help but wonder if perhaps the fact that none of your girl friends can troubleshoot your computer is because they've been molded by society to lack interest in all things math and science related? Because of my inability to connect with most college guys I've met, I live a virtually boy-free existence. Though this is definitely not by choice
I don't spend my every waking hour sighing and feeling helpless.
So, I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to take away from your post or something, that wasn't my intent. I just haven't had near the same experience as you. Yeah, guys can be awesome. I wish the good Lord would send one of the awesome ones my way. Until He does, though, I'll call my computer whiz friend Lindsay to troubleshoot for me.

^~ most of the guys I know where I live are total dip-shards, some are okay though- I'd count them as a friend. A lotta the boys and girls I meet online are pretty cool, and I really can't say much for the local girls...the scary ones with the low-rise jeans and gittler out number those that Im more comfy with (ie, the ones who don't remind me of a push-pop, if that makes sense, if it don't-don't mind me..!)
an you should have used superglue =D

Im not evil, just sorely underrepresented...
Actually, the whole jar-opening thing is one area where I DON'T ask for help, because... Well, let's face it, I'm NEARLY as competetive as many guys I know are, and... well, I hate looking like a wuss. See, when I'm around guys, I want to try and impress them, like they seem to try and impress each other (I dunno whether they do this consciously or not, but you can see it). I'm all in on the "Oh you think THAT'S gross, well listen to THIS!" conversations and such. However, the fact of the matter is that I AM a wuss, and I AM sheltered and... well, the impressive things about my life are just so subtle that they don't usually stand up to most guys' feats of stomach and stupidity. Now, in a group of GIRLS, I can usually find a few who will adore and idolize me when they hear about some of my life's experiences and see and example of my talents. Other girls are like, yeah, whatever. That's mildly interesting, but it's irrelevant, because you're not "cool" or your not successful or whatever.MongooseQuarrel wrote: "Men where placed on this earth to do the one single most important job in the universe...open pickle jars"......
an you should have used superglue =D
But I always feel so inadequate among guys, especially when it comes to music and stuff. Because I tend to fall into groups of people where almost everybody plays guitar or something. And when I'm at the very bottom of the ladder in that area... Well, it just makes me want to OUTDO them by going and becoming REALLY REALLY GOOD AT GUITAR, because then I'll be cool and impressive and stuff.
But, um, I'm not. And I never practice, and... yeah.
Um, anyway.
And about the superglue: That's exactly what Crash said.... But I didn't HAVE any superglue. So there.

Gotta' love the stuff...
As for the gender I prefer to be around? To be quite perfectly honest; I do not care.
Well, that's a lie, testosterone dictates I enjoy being around girls more. But if the conversation's there, the interests and sense of humour, I'm more than happy... Hell, I don't have any friends, I don't care what sex they are! Just stop me being so DAMN LONELY! ;__;
Perhaps I should stop being so picky about friends... perhaps I should get out more... perhaps I should find people... perhaps many things...
I dislike being a human... social instinct is such a bitch...

Actually I typically recognize it when I start doing it, but I can't help it. Hence the preference for presence of girls. But it's like I said, my skateboarding is my way of getting that out of my system, too. You wanna talk about one-up-manship? Woo-boy... The real fun is when someone slams (as my sig mentions) and you just get back up and act like it's nothig. It's awesome to see the guys who are total hardcore with like blood running down their arm or leg or from a big 'ol gash in their head and THEY'RE STILL SKATING! That just like, totally motivates me., like they seem to try and impress each other (I dunno whether they do this consciously or not, but you can see it).
Sometime, ask me to show you guys the title shot from my video "For Joy." It has a still from one of the days I was taping with my friend Kevin and he had just fallen real hard. He's walking away from the camera with his board in his hands and he's got this trickle of blood running down his elbow/arm. Ah... the drama...
*shakes head* Sorry, just a bit off topic there. o_o
Ain't it tho?social instinct is such a bitch

I haven't arm-wrestled anyone since Jr. high. IIRC, I was #3 in my class behind Bonnie Taylor and Ricardo Martinez (both over 6' tall).W.M.Y.L.G. Joe wrote:Actually, I almost got beat out in an arm wrestling match by this girl who wasn't even 100 lbs...

From my experience as a patient: Controlled breathing is a key. If you tense up, surface veins contract and make it harder for them to get it in. I can get along with just about anyone but partially because my first friend was a girl and Joes' reasons I tend to prefer girls. Seems like the people I know IRL are boring or shallow and provide little if any interesting conversations. Most seem to be wrapped up in their own lives and don't realize there's a huge would out their full of wonderful things.
That's why I started posting to message boards.
I like learning about other places and meeting new people.
Traveling would be more fun but this will have to suffice for now.
I have to agree with that. 8)Spectre_Eric wrote:Although, my typical comment is that it's a good thing that most people dont' *like* needles.

The funny thing is, I'm not into typical girl behavior myself. My ability to connect almost exclusively with girls also seems to be kind of a new thing. In my last year of High School one of my closest friends was a 16 year old boy I hung out with in band! Sure, he was mature for his age (and among the few literate males in the whole horrible small town scene) but it's kind of a big jump to having next to 0 guy friends in college. I don't know what the deal is. Girls just seem more approachable to me here. I've never really thought of myself as 'girly'. I'm straight-up fight-for-your-rights feminist and proud of it**. But I am guilty of enjoying clothes and makeup.. more as outlets for expressing individuality than a way to blend in with everyone else. My roommate thinks I'm super girly just because I carry a little plaid purse.. I guess 'girly' is in the eye of the beholder.
lmao.. a pushpop! Mongoose, you certainly have a way with words..
Anyway, I guess you just gravitate to the people you can understand. If you understand the opposite sex better than your own, I'd consider you extremely lucky!
**Sidenote- Yeah, I'd categorize myself as a feminist. I am also a Christain. I oppose abortion. I am not one of those crazy radicals. I just don't believe in females being treated like subhumans. The term 'feminist' has gotten a bad rep, I just wanted to make it clear that we aren't all extreme militant leftist nuts.**

They only want one thing from women and everything they do is for that goal.
The rest of them are pushing themselves for their education and are too pre-occupied to socialize. Most are too shy to talk to a pretty girl.

"Girly" is great as long as it's who you are and not just what is popular at the moment.
There's nothing wrong with being a "sheep" and following the crowd, it's just that I've never found someone (male or female) like that to be very interesting or carry on much of a conversation.
