Dates in dropdowns

Postby Smorris on Sun Aug 15, 2004 12:00 am

So I've got my storyline dropdown up and running, and the storylines are there and the links work, but it shows storylines that haven't happened yet but are queued. Here's what my dropdown.txt file looks like:

"Chapter 1: Those Vital Utilities",/d/20040719.html,7/19/2004
Those Vital Utilities,/d/20040719.html,7/19/2004
President!,/d/20040726.html,7/26/2004
Fundraising,/d/20040804.html,8/4/2004
Tour of the Pond,/d/20040816.html,8/16/2004
Chapter 2: Respect For Authority,/d/20040823.html,8/23/2004
Republican Party in the Big City!,/d/20040823.html,8/23/2004

I also tried using the 20040823 format, but that didn't work either. According to http://www.cyax.com/darkpages/keenspace/storylines.html this should work, but it doesn't. Am I doing something wrong? If so, how do I fix it? Any ideas?

How about just leaving out the dates?

If that doesn't work, he could try putting a space after commas, or not including quote signs in the first row...

I started out with no dates, and according to the tutorial I linked to, the dates are supposed to solve this problem. Unfortunately, no dice.

The quotes should be unnecessary either way, they're just if you want to use commas in your title. (No, I have no idea why I decided to throw them in there.) Just for good measure I took them out and added the spaces before the dates. Still no luck.

Does anyone else have storylines queued like this? It seems like some of you must... what does your dropdown.txt look like to get that to work?

Maybe if you removed the dates and that last comma off the end, and perhaps it needs a space between the first comma and the /d/etc... stuff afer the titles? Dunno if that's what's causing the problem, but with mine I've just typed "Casper's First Day, /d/20040612.html" (quotation marks removed) and it all seems to work okie-dokie.

Yeah, I've tried that too... the spaces don't seem to matter, but removing the dates seems to make matters worse. Here's what I mean: The story thus far has two collapsable chapters with subsections, like Sluggy Freelance. When I remove the dates, all subsections become visible, including the ones in the future chapter. When I add them, future subsections in the current chapter are visible, as well as the name of the next chapter, but not the subsections. (I have no idea what it will look like when chapters change... guess we'll find that out next week if I don't solve the problem.)

Not sure what you can do to fix that, but I know in my case I just update the dropdown.txt file whenever a new storyline begins or a new Special is online. Means I have to go back to the original file and upload it every now and then when the story shifts, but so far it works okay.

yeah... it would be nice to update the future storylines when I update the comics, but I guess I ain't gonna be able to do that. Wonder if the chapters are gonna be collapsable...
