After that gratuitous little bit of nonsense (All of which was written by Red Green, btw) I decided to actually do some work. Fatefully, this led to a thought. That's why I rarely do any sort of real work.
As a preliminary setup and gratuitous plug, I'll point out that I've got all the current conversions I did for Ryan back up, and with any luck I'll get to expand on them shortly.
But the point is, as I was uploading it all the thought struck me; The Shackers and Co. in polygons. What if? So, I hereby unburden myself of all the various ideas I've had and see if I can inject a bit more life into this fine forum.
Now, as we all know, electronic entertainment comes in several flavours, ones that often overlap and make it difficult to pin a definition on the game in question. But broad generalization will make this much easier for me, so that's what I'll do. Consider, if you will, Ronnie's prospects in these arenas.
RPG: One of my personal favourite styles of video game is the role-playing game. From hack-and-slashers like the Diablo series to more weird and wonderful things like Final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger, I really get a kick out games that let you gratuitously beat a bewildering variety of baddies and still have a coherent and involving storyline. What about a Shacker RPG? We all know that it's not a ridiculous or even slightly silly concept, since one effectively exists already (See link above) and the main difficulty would be figuring out a proper style and pacing.
The idea of a dungeon hack, or in this case crackhouse hack or spaceship hack, with the Shackers as your playing pieces is an interesting one, but the familiar yet esoteric madness of Ronnie's world, in my mind, lends itself to something a bit more storyline-oriented.
Brawler: This refers to the classic lost art of games like Double Dragon, Fighting Force, Streets of Rage and RIver City Ransom. I think we can all agree that this might be a bit more up the Shackers alley. Kicking the crap out of a nearly endless horde of mooks while negotiating the odd driving mini-game, shooting gallery, or jumping puzzle...What's not to like?
Fighting: A pretty damn fine fighting game could be piecved together from the Shackers world as well. Of course, that would depend also on how many characters you could fit into it. It strikes em that we might lack for a few characters if this was undertaken, but having been spoiled on games Marvel vs. Capcom 2 which pits a grand total of 56 characters against one another, what the fuck do I know?
Dating Simulation: Yes, no, maybe so; The preceding statement about summed up my opinion on this one.
Sports Simulation: Driving, maybe, just maybe. Otherwise, I don't think so. Unless there's some sort of underground baseball league that the Shackers belong to, or King Debucon tries to take the world over through the auspices of a subverted NFL...
Strategy: If you're thinking real-time strategy in the vein of C&C, Warzone 2100, Earth 2150, etc. then you can probably forget. Intriguing as the prospect of the invasion of Debuca Prime, beginning with a number of Construction 'Coons dropped off by the Pengwinne-Zeppelin, culminating on a base assault spearheaded by a horde of 'Coon Commandoes is, god only knows where it would all end if they asked for a sequel. There's only ONE Ronnie, damn it all, and we love the real one!
FPS: Let's face it folks...Of all the possibilities, this is where the money is and this is where the Shackers are at. Configuration would of course the primary concern. For instance, do we let Ronnie have all the fun? While many shooters that tried the concept of multiple characters with differing characteristics were less than critically acclaimed [Blood II, Daikatana, etc.], theer's no reason we couldn't get lucky the time. And so forth...
So Ryan, what's your angle on this issue?
------------------

I would think that Ronnie's a solid Platforming character. Because a good RPG would be so long, I wouldn't be able to make it funny enough. And if it's a figting game, The control scheme at least would be better if it was like simple Smash Bros. moves, not complicated button mashing like Street Fighter. A "Sam & Max"-like adventure game would be appropriate too, but those only are fun the first time through.

You know what would rule? A brawler/adventure game, a la River City Ransom. You know, have the characters run around beating people up, but letting them go wherever they want to.
Is making a game all that hard? A 2D game, in my opinion, should be barely easy to make. The shit would be the programming and shit.

Yeah! I like River City Ransom. Only drawback is the rather slow "build-up experience" system.
Can't say how hard programming is. There's always total conversions of already existing games, but that's not easy as well.
What am I saying? I really don't know about programming-stuff so I'm just guessing.

Oh, God! River City Ransom rules SO much! That's THE best game for the NES. The BEST!
Anyway, I think RR would fit River City Ransom's flava like a ring to the, well, finger. Or tail, since raccoons have like, rings in their...tails...and...uh...oh, just forget it.
------------------
