Favourite Web Comics.

Postby Brentos on Mon Oct 28, 2002 7:43 am

I've been meaning to start a thread where we could give links to our favourite lesser-known web comics and I'll start things off with a link to my good buddy Cyyeun's site, which has some real cool stuff with lots of feeling.

http://xepher.net/~cyyeun/

Cyyeun draws the best facial expressions I've seen. Ever. What blows me away about his art is that he draws his stuff so quickly and it has a real sketchy look to it but the emotion he puts into each character is stunning. Cyyeun is untrained in art techniques, everything he's learned has been from scrutinous observation. Recently he's even shaved his head bald just so he could study the muscle structures of his scull from differing expressions. I could go on all day about his work and talent but I'll let you all be the judges. Cyyeun lives in Malaysia and speaks many freaky languages so much of his script is in broken english, but his work keeps getting more and more western readers. Check it out. Oh yeah!

Moving away from "good art," I have to mention Yahtzee. It's done entirely in paint, it's basically sprites, but it's incredibly well written and consistently funny. Especially King Penguin. It's over now, so no updates, but it's daily for at least two years, so it should keep you busy. http://yahtzee.keenspace.com

That one looks excellent, the dialogue runs along nicely with no bumps and I think the art is pretty decent. The expressions are good and so's the body language. Long winded cuss aint I? Anyhow, I can't read all of it now since I keep laughing and everyone else here at the school thinks I'm clazy.

Here's one of my all time favourites. The characters are right on and you never know what to expect. It can go from totally hilarious to harsh in a heartbeat. I also like the symbolism with Susans head. I show this one to people and they don't always like it so... here it is ya stoopid heads. http://www.stoopidpigeon.com/

...Oh yeah, it's got a gay robot. weird eh?

It's furries and it isn't terrible.

I suppose the art in Yahtzee is good considering it's paint.

Furry but not terrible? Isn't that an oxymoron?

BWAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHH!!! Hey, I kid because I love!

Now, my particular favorite comic has to be Pokey the Penguin at http://www.yellow5.com/pokey/!

But everyone loves Pokey.

But Pokey has the strength of five mortal men!

Well, not to everyone's taste, I guess:)

I've been thinking about that lately. We all here like The Fantastical Bestiary and each others comics, a commonality, but our tastes are quite varied. We've got Jack AND Pokey mentioned here. I'd like to point out that our comics we all do here stand out from each others too. It's like we're not trying to be a clique of some sort, as in "gamer comics" or "fantasy-type comics" or whatever. And I must say at this particular moment in time that the guest strips have been funny and well done too.

Here's an awesome strip that doesn't seem to get mentioned enough. When you go there MAKE SURE you DON'T read the 2002 archives first. Read some of the older ones first, get to know Rocko and Socko, then check out what happens in the final year. Lot's of fans were complaining about what was happening to the strip with Rocko and Socko, but the joke was on them the whole time. I myself wasn't complaining, I had this gut feeling the creators were working up to some major all-time PLIF, and they were. I just love the final year. What am I talking about? Yeah. http://www.plif.com/

What do you mean WE, white man?!? For those of you not in the know, Prankster has scored himself a sweet deal writing for Pewfell Porfingles...Pefwell Profingles? Whatever. You know of whom I speak. In any case, that officially qualifies you as a Moderntale whore in my book! Booo! Let's all mock Pranster's success!!! Hissss!!

I kid, I kid! Seriously, now, hearty congratulations! What trips me out about that, though, is that he's still got time to do not one, not two, but THREE strips!!! Night Shift, Amazon Space Rangers, and Freak U!!! And Pogo, too, for that matter. The mind boggles!!
