Artist's Update, 03 - 16 - 01

Sorry the comic's a day late. Keenspace went down for a while. I don't really like the original art for this strip, but it scanned okay...although you can't really see the texture in Beri's hair.<P>These last couple of strips, with Paige breaking into Beri's house, may have been a little unnecessary to the overall storyline, but they were kind of fun to draw. Back when Only One was but a fictional story (A bad one, entitled 'The Legacy' and spanning 64 bad pages) my favorite parts to write were just the characters bantering back and forth. I know you readers would like a little more action, and I'm going to sit down and really plan out the next couple of weeks soon.<P>In a way, I still consider myself well within the exposition and character setup. It's hard to write dialogue, then, because although I know each character's quirks, nobody else does. At this point, probably all you could have gleaned is that Beri is thoughtful, Kylie is spunky and Paige is a tomboy.<P>I mentioned my old work, 'The Legacy' above. Although the writing and plot were horrible, it was really an ambitious project. Beri and Kylie you know, and Sotalia and Alecsandre both featured. Characters not likely to appear in Only One for a long time include Niko Kertanne, Mitwil Kitrost, Tantin Bespor, Alyan Bespor, Erian Althesar, Talyana Catroli, Kaotix Irisune, Sarah Orinson, James Coswell Thatcher, Erith Catroli, Gabriel Tau, Calyanna Tomaszek, or Annie Tomaszek. Although I am introducing one character from the second part of that novel - Janna Delini, although with a huge redesign to her. I've said too much already.<P>Reading back over it, it's not too bad...just...well, each page needs to be like three, and some as much as ten or so. Really. I'd show you, but it'd give too many spoilers to the eventual story here. Still, it might be nice to show some parts of it in comic strip format. In particular combat, because back in my more creative days I had some wicked weaponry ideas. Alyan used a series of blades somewhat like mounted katar and boot knives, and Tantin, an archer, had his quiver on his arm so he could slash with the broadheads. Somewhat like Linna of Bubblegum Crisis, Erian used razor-sharp ribbon cable in battle, but his fight was a dance in itself.<P>Anyway, I've just been rambling today, but that's a little insight into where Only One came from. I've had the characters for at least seven years now, but things keep evolving. It wasn't until I solidified everything that I felt confident to begin Only One.<P>By the way, other artists have rants, so here's mine - people who walk and smoke. I really don't believe people have a right to poison a fifteen foot cone behind them. And why can't people take more than three steps from a building before lighting up? For someone who is asthmatic like myself, you might as well be breating Sarin gas into the sky.<P>------------------

I shall finish the rant since it seemed to be missing the horrible death of the rantees in quetion.<P>First they all shall be captured and moved to a small island perhaps Cypress. Then they shall be stripped nude and their buttocks shall be lovingly tapped like a baby waking for the first time. A lovely and erotic rednedd will enfuse the gorgeous chee-<P>oops wrong forum heh heh<P>As I was saying they shall be placed on this small island and then a penguin will waddle into their midst. MUCH waddling there will be oh yes! Then the penguin will shall strain and strain until it lays an egg of beauty and potency. Then it shall wipe its brow (laying eggs is truly hard work) then waddle off. The egg shall lay there until the evil smoker-demons approach and then mechanical feet will pop out and it will begin to run around. After several steps the top will lift off and tubes shall come out whic release a highly infectious and airborne strain of flesh eating bacteria into their succulent midst. Barry will, of course be immune, and stand there cackling madly as the enemies of his lungs wither and die before his eyes.<P>HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!
