Why was MY post deleated? Why was my questions on why dubs are hated so much deleted? You can't just delete it and hope I'll shut up and dissapear.

I'm serious, I want to know why people hate dubs so much. Why is it when I say I like them, people do crap like delete my posts?

This is wrong, this is very wrong. Now maybe it was deleted for the abreviated cussing, and if so I'm sorry.

But I'm not letting this go, I want to know what's so wrong with me liking the dub. What makes this "sub" so great?

You called me a Funimation tool Dennis, and I don't appercate it. I'm tired of hearing subs rule because they are pure. I'm sick of hearing dubs suck because of such minor things like added diolage.

Maybe this isn't the best board for this, but untill it's answered I'll post it again and again. I'm sick of being the outcast because I like dubs.

You were deleted because you posted a long whiny rant and it annoyed me so I deleted it. I'm the moderator. I can do that.

This one is shorter so I'll let it slide.

And all I'm going to say is you are taking this WAY to seriously. And you'll hear no more from me on the subject.

Alright, since I'm calm again, I can push this silly argument aside.

I'm sorry that I got worked up over it. I know it shouldn't matter, but it's just something that bothers me.

There have been other threads I've posted I've liked dubs, and well, they attacked me for it.

I admit I'm paranoid about it. But I can accept why people like the subtitles. I've seen what's so great about them.

I just wish people wouldn't put me down for liking the dub.

I close this with I'm very sorry Dennis, and I'll try not to get so worked up over these things. You just hit a nerve with that name you called me.

I guess you can consider me a Funimation tool. But I don't.

I dislike the dubs because I often find the voices to be so horrid...they never seem to be anywhere NEAR as good as the Japanese for matching voice-coloration (is that a word? ^_^;;) to characters.

I can't say "I hate dub" or "I hate sub". It all depends on what I'm watching. Example: Evangelion dub is great! I can, and have, watched all of that series in both original japanese and Eglish, and I like the english better with the exception that the Evas aren't as loud.

Then there are dubs like the original Escaflowne dub, where they cut out ther first episode. Great idea, huh? They re-wrote the story to suit the target audience of American kids. But, this is more of a problem with the company then the dub itself... same holds for Card Captor Sakura.

And then there's Sorcerer Hunters, where the plot's the same, the voices match just as well (in my opinion), and it's all good.

It's really a product-company thing. That's why I hate the DBZ dub- I'll still watch it, but I just can't stand some of the voices... and the early american scripts...

I kinda prefer the dub's to sub's. I think they do a pretty good job at trying to match up the voices to the characters. For instance on Trigun, I think they did a pretty darn good job on the voices.

I've had this same argument come up at the anime club I got going at school (not as many adventures as FOGclub, although I did meet my fiance there). As far as dubs/subs go, its been said, it depends on the series. There is the occasional dub I enjoy, such as Macross Plus or Record of Lodoss War, and then there are series that I'd prefer to watch subed, like Rurouni Kenshin or Angel Sanctuary. Most people who end up watching anime for a while tend to get drawn over to the subs and think dubs are absolutely horrid (which, they can be. Fear Revenge of the Ninja Warrior!!!) But that doesn't mean there's anything wrong w/them, so Go you, videomaster, for supporting the other side of the lake.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a rabid sub fan. At least half of the DVDs in my collection have never had the dub track even selected (my DVD player auto-selects Japanese).

My main reason for this is that with the Japanese dialogue, you get the show the way (mostly, since there's still translation on the subtitles) the original creators intended it.

My other reason is that the majority (not all, and the gap is finally starting to close) of dubs are very bad. CardCaptors, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Slayers are all examples of bad (at least to my ears) dubs.

On the other hand, there are a few dubs that are exceptionally well done. For example, the original El Hazard OVA, Princess Mononoke, and Shinesman (which is actually funnier dubbed than subbed).

Thankfully, the number of bad dubs in recent years has declined, probably due to the surge in anime's popularity, though the occassional really bad one (Case in point: Angel Sanctuary) slips through.

I can't say I hate dubs, since when I start a series, I watch it in Japanese first, then spot check the dub on the first disk to see how critical scenes play out, but I've found that for the majority of the shows I like, they received poor to fair dubs, and for that reason, I far prefer my subtitles.

Just to toss in my 3 cents (Canadian).

I think one of the main reasons I like the dubs is because the things that bother so many people, just don't bother me. It's not that I have bad taste, it's just they don't seem as bad as a few people will put them.

Jar Jar Binks. I've seen him. I've listened to him. I don't really see why people could hate him so much. He just doesn't come off as annoying. He's not something I'll collect merch of either, but he doesn't irk me.

Lin Minmae in the "Robotech" series. People always say her singing in american is horrible. She never sounds anything like what they make it out to be, and I really don't think she's a horrible singer. She's not the best, but not the worst either.

Sailor Moon S and SS. These dubs however do nothing short of piss me off. They got rid of the R voice actors, and just got really horrilbe ones to replace them. The only dub that I can't actually enjoy to it's full extent. I will however watch it if it's the only way to get a hold of it.

Maybe I'm weird, but they never phase me. The only thing that just pisses me off to the point I can hardly stand it is MegaMan's american voice which is never anything but a girls voice.

MegaMan is a MAN not a girl Capcom! I don't care if your going to pre adult, no more female voice actors!

I mean they got it right in MML but WHAT DO THEY DO IN MML2? They get SAILOR JUPITER to do the voice! ARRRRRRRRRRG!!!

Oh and speaking of MegaMan I just beat MegaMan X6. My megaman fan power has just become stronger! He he he....HA HA HA HA

*shudder* Allow me to disagree on that note. ^^; The voices somehow seem too...i don't know, old, or deep, compared to the original voices *coughSHINJIcough*. Or some too young *coughKAJIcough* . And "What are you, stupid?" just can't compare with "Anta Baka?"
Myself, I prefer the french dubs, which are on par with the japanese version (the french have suprisingly accurate voice actors for the series, and having watched quite a few, I can vouch for that)... it's also kindof funny to watch in one language, and have the dub in another. I noted that there's an added layer of sarcasm in the french dubs, that adds to the humor factor

Oh yes, speaking of voices sounding younger then they should, In Escaflowne. (No idea if that's spelled right)

One voice did rub me the wrong way. That one guy (who's cheek got cut, and he rubs the cut saying cheek, I forget his name It was a year ago when that was on fox kids.)

He looks teenage, but he has this 8 year old voice. <shudder>

that would be Dilando (sp?). He actually says "cheek" in America? That's just not right.... the original script was "Moeru.. Moeru...Moeru..Moeru..." something along the lines of "I'll kill you.."

The Fox Escaflowne just shouldn't have been done.

It's just not right to cut out the first episode!

Anybody seen the dubbed version of Slayers?

I'm not %100 certain, but I'm pretty sure Gourry's voice is done by one of the actors from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.
