The Billy part of the Story actually Reminds me of Laguna Loire from Final Fantasy 8. He got hurt outside of town, they take him in, heal him, he stays. Blah Blah Blah...
Actually, Scott or "Billy-style Scott" reminds me of Laguna, too. Maybe Dennis was playing some FF8 before making some comics lately... Hm Hm Hm!
Your friend,

Actually, the comic is playing right off the Trigun storyline.
You see...Vash, forced by Legato, blew up a city. I can't tell you how, because that would be a spoiler. Anyway, Vash winds up hurt, dusty, and alone, and this girl named Lena from the town of Little Jersey finds him and she and her grandmother take him in. Vash gives himself the name "Ericks" and stays with them for two years, living a quiet life like he's always wanted to (instead of the life of a hunted gunslinger), and lets his hair grow out like that. Then, Nicholas D. Wolfwood (Trigun's gunsligning preacher-man), finds him and tells him that he's got to resume his old life and save people because something creepy has happened to a town called Carcasses, and thus, Vash the Stampede is reborn...having to leave Lena and Grandma, promising to come back someday.
