Chris Parnell

Postby BoxJam on Sat Dec 01, 2001 10:27 am

So I watched SNL tonight for the first time
this season, and Chris Parnell isn't in the
cast any more!<P>When I searched the web, I couldn't find much
except the short items I found implied they
got rid of him instead of him deciding to leave.<P>WTF!?<P>Am I offbase thinking that's nuts?<P>For anybody who sometimes watches SNL, please
post your opinion of Parnell, relative to the
rest of the cast.<P>Should he have been let go? Where in last year's
cast would you rank him?<P>For myself, I'd say he was arguably the strongest
cast member last year. If I were overhauling
the show, he'd be one of the last few I'd let
go, with Ferrell, Fallon, and Fey.<P>------------------

Can't say as I've seen an SNL for a few years, but from past observations, I don't believe they use any rational logic whatsoever when it comes to the cast. They seem to have a way of driving off their best talent, or not giving them time to develop.<P>Wildcat

I found this on a fan site:<P>"Chris had to leave SNL after an NBC executive decided he, apparently, wasn't funny enough. Heh. Anyway, Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan tried to get him back, but they had no luck."<P>Man, that sucks, he was actually an all around funny guy. Not like Horatio Sanz, whose only funny 'cause he screws up and laughs all the time. Tina Fey is kinda cute though.<P>I thought Chris would've been one of the last ones standing after everyone else left for mediocre film careers. Oh well, all we can hope for is for him to get something really big, and then turn down SNL when they're begging him to host.<P>Man...his Brittany Spears rap thing was hilarious.<P>------------------

Saturday Night Live? Feh!...<P>That must be the same NBC Executive who thought Norm McDonald wasn't funny enough to do the news... (and led to Colin "Remote Control" I can write a good joke now and then but have no Comic Timing Quinn)<P>------------------

I can't believe no one's mentioned Darryl Hammond. While admittedly not that funny in his own right, his impersonations are usually dead-on.<P> <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by TeenIdol:

</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE><P>I disagree. I think Fallon <I>started out</I> trying to be the next Adam Sandler, but I think he's really grown quite a bit with his expanded role on the show. I hated his guts at first, but I've come to like him more and more. <P>Tina Fey, if I'm not mistaken, is the show's head writer, correct? I'd like to see her in more skits. As far as I can recall, she only anchors the news. She's pretty good.<P>Will Farrell is great. Horatio Sanz sucks ass. He's no Chris Farley, no matter how much he wants to be. He <I>sure as hell</I> no Belushi.<P>Parnell actually irritated me. I was never a big Parnell fan, but I will admit that he was one of the most talented on the show, and certainly didn't deserve to be driven off, Norm MacDonald-style.<P>Chris Kattan has just gotten really REALLY annoying.<P>------------------

I liked Parnel. I think Ferrell, Dratch and
Fey are also keepers. I think Fallon is
starting to wane as he slowly tries to turn
into the next Adam Sandler.<P>Will Ferrell seems to be the most versitile
one in the cast. The movies he has been in
are pretty sad, so I hope he stays on SNL for a bit longer.<P>------------------

yeah, Norm was let go cause an NBC exec didn't think he was funny enough. Problem with SNL in my opinion, they have some GREAT premises ruined with very very bad writing. In my opinion, the funniest sketch comedy on TV was Mr. Show with Bob n' Dave. Did anybody else watch this show, or was it just me?<P>~dave<P>------------------

I might have put up with a Bob Dole presidency just to have four years of Norm's impression. <P> <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by toddandpenguin:

I like John Goodman on SNL.
Rob Lowe also does a good job(his Shaggy impression is spot-on).
I don't like pretty much any of "this year's people". I also don't like Jimmy Fallon much.
Most of Kattan's stuff sucks, Tracy Morgan's doing better, and I was glad that whats-her-face left. Molly Shannon was just AWFUL. I'm glad she left.
A lot of the SNL people are funnier when they're doing stand-up. Colin Quinn wasn't that bad at it, he's more of a political comedian. Hammond was very funny on the Comedy Central Presents thing he was in.
Parnell did a great job most of the time. He was sometimes the "straight man" but he was still good at it. He even made the Christopher Walken centaur sketch funny.

I *hate* musical guests. Bands I *like* suck on SNL. Every year I tune in for one or three to see how they're doing, but SNL has continuously sucked for years. <P>And then gone on to make bad movies. The only good SNL movies were the Blues Brothers movies, Wayne's World movies, and ... well, maybe that's it.<P>Mad TV is better, but not living up to its potential, either. Corky and the Juice Pigs racked.<P>------------------

I have learned that SNL has rehired Chris Parnell, as a full cast member.

I am gladdened.

Hooray!

I, personally, really like the cast now. I think Chris Parnell is hilarious, and Darrell Hammond is by far my favorite cast member because he is so very AMAZING.

Did that sound generic enough? I don't like Will Ferrel. I think he and Sheri oTeri (who isnt on anymore) really sucked up the place. They entered in the phase where SNL just wasn't funny, when they were relying on running gags and 10 minute long surreal sketches. SNL too often relies on recurring characters that just aren't funny. Honestly, who here has though Mango is STILL funny? Most likely no one. I think they need to bring back Mark McKInney and give him more of a role. Or at least make him a writer. Kids In The Hall always was superior.
