The new Pogo (so far as I know) didn't fly. I saw a couple weeks' worth, and it was good -- by which I mean I couldn't have said that they didn't reanimate Walt Kelley, it was that good.
But I had a lot of classic Pogo book collections as a kid, and read and re-read them all. Not that I understood the political aspect (being a decade too late even had I been an adult) but the stories themselves were just so wacky and funny, went off on these weird tangents, but stayed actual stories for the most part.
Kelley was a genius at working a gag-a-day-with-a-story line for years and years on end. And always fresh, as far as I can tell.
The O-Gay-Pay-OO (Old Glory and Perloo Union)? The Fearless Leader ("they don't let him have anything sharper than a rubber ball.") Deacon Mushrat talking in that Gothic font. The storekeeper who's quick to mark up a price whenever he has the opportunity. Churchy's hilarious mayhem with the lyrics of otherwise normal songs ("Old King Wencelaus look out! On yo' feets uneven...") ("My bonnet lice soda devotion, may booney lye sofa D.C...")
Man. Pogo had it all. It just doesn't get any better than that. Which is, of course, why the market utterly refused a comeback. As far as I know, anyway.
As for all those non-funny "comic strips" -- eh. They always left me completely cold. I just skipped over them, back when I still read toons on paper.
------------------

Whenever I get to the serial section in the comics, I read them all together as though they're one strip. It seems to make more sense that way... But it seems like entirely too much of an investment to actually try and follow what's going on in three or for panels a day. When I was younger, I tried to read the Spider-Man serial and even that annoyed me. I guess Comic Books in general are serials but you get a longer chunk of action for your wait.
------------------
um, yeah...

Hmm.... Well, I always had a fondness fpr the Floyd Gottfredson "Mickey Mouse" serials from the 30's (particularly the somewhat bizarre "Blaggard Castle" serial, where sinister scientists develop a ray which affects people's free will as well as their sanity, turning Horace Horsecollar into a raving lunatic.") It would be a close tie between that and "Pogo," with its particularly long and intricate serials, weaving to and fro (the first Simple J. Malarkey storyline being a good example.)
Unfortunately, I really haven't been exposed to many serial strips outside of those, with the exception of "Mary Worth."

'Classic' Pogo, or the one that's been started
up again (if it's still going on)?
------------------

Yeah, pretty much. An ongoing story, instead
of humor. The line is obviously a fuzzy one.
