I'm a fan of a lot of different types of Science Fiction/Fantasy, ranging from silly sci-fi to military space operas. To prove such, I present 'We Saved This City', in tribute to John Ringo's ACS series and the first novel in the series, A Hymn Before Battle. If you're interested, the novel can be found online at Baen's free library, at http://www.baen.com/library/0671318411/0671318411.htm

Feel free to add your own home-made filk to this thread... I'm curious to see what we come up with.

We Saved This City
By: Nodrog
Based on 'We Built This City' by Starship and 'A Hymn Before Battle' by John Ringo

Chorus:
We saved this city, we saved this city on rock an' roll
Saved this city, we saved this city on rock an' roll

Say you don't know me, or recognize the use
For the A.C.S. who are going to save your caboose
Knee deep in the Posleens, wading through the fight
Too many Posleen eating in the night

Mike O'Neal plays the music, dances with the devil, don't you remember
We saved this city, we saved this city on rock an' roll

chorus

Seems we go stratight from VR Games
To kicking Posleen ass and not taking down their names
We just want to survive, something blew too soon,
We got buried under a building, a hundred meters 'doon',

Mike O'Neal plays the music, dances with the devil, don't you remember
We saved this city, we saved this city on rock an' roll

chorus

It's just another battle, in a tired old street
The frontline troops were losing, oh when they heard a rockin' beat.

Who saw the dragon coming from the sea,
Who watched the dragon mouths taking down Poslee',
Tell us you don't need us, 'cos we're pricey boots
Fighting for America, using our holo-masked suits

Don't you remember (remember)

Mike O'Neal plays the music, dances with the devil, don't you remember
We saved this city, we saved this city on rock an' roll

chorus repeats 2x

...I guess it's fine. I was intending to use the song "Sara" from the same album in a filk about Shanna, but now I'm thinking better of it.
